Abstract:
EDM machine for machining of a stationary workpiece including a device for moving the machining head of the machine and hence the tool along the Z axis and a cross movements system with two chariots each sliding along one of the reference axes X and Y of the machine for moving the machining head along these axes. A main frame body is shaped as a cube having four vertical walls joined together so as to delimit a square space all these walls being immovably attached to the same base forming the lower face of the cube and to the horizontal element with an opening cut out in it forming the upper face of the cube. An assembly designed to move the machining head along the Z axis along at least one of the chariots of the system in the X-axis and/or Y-axis of cross movements is mounted above the upper face of the cube thus resting on four pillars formed by the edges of the cube delimited by the four vertical walls. The opening cut out in the upper face of the cube being suitably profiled to allow this assembly to move freely along at least either the X or Y axis. The machining tank and the work table are mounted atop a vertically actuable column extending from a base of the body during machining.
Abstract:
Tool-holder (5) makes it possible to rotate a tool at high speed around its axis of symmetry. Its tapered end (26) is engaged in the tapered bore (16) provided in the spindle (6). In a bore of suitable shape a clamp (2) is engaged, adapted to secure the electrode tool end (1) rigidly. An injection chamber (28) communicates with the bore and is connected by radial channels (27) to a fluid inlet. The clamp (2) has radial grooves to bring the cooling fluid (25) from the injection chamber (28) to the surface of the tool (1). A sealed circuit (12,13,15) channels the liquid; it is connected by an input channel of small diameter which passes through the spindle body (10) to a small liquid inlet in the mobile element of the machining head or in the intermediary fixing element mounted on said mobile element. An annular seal (14) of small diameter is mounted in the spindle body around said channel (11').

A good electric contact device is provided for carrying electrical current to a rotating cylindrical part; it comprisesat least one conducting plate mounted around the rotating cylinder to be supplied with current, rotating together with it, while establishing a gold, almost frictionless, electrical contact,at least one electrical contact which is stationary during the rotation of the cylinder and provided with at least one housing in which means are set which are supplied with electricity from a generator, said contact having at least one side intended to be applied against one of the sides of the conducting guide so as to transmit to it very efficiently, almost without friction and overheating, the electrical current, andmeans to apply the stationary contact against the rotating guide. These contacts are advantageously used for feeding the electroerosive current to a rotating spindle in an E D Milling machining.
Abstract:
An electric discharge machine with a turning or touch-up of the electrode uses an auxiliary tool for cutting or chiseling within an auxiliary tool holder which is mounted in the tank and includes a reference sphere for determining the electrode's shape. The auxiliary tool can include an assembly of several mechanical tools mounted symmetrically.
Abstract:
A machining head carries at its end a sensor comprising a pressure-sensitive element (4) mounted on the parts (1, 2) holding the injector jet for the machining fluid, as well as the buffering pieces (5, 6, 12) forming a shield. The element (4) is an insulating and watertight tube, arranged to form a ring in the space left between the coaxial, truncated conical surfaces of the parts (1) and (2). It contains conducting parts which come into contact with one another when it is deformed by the action of a pressure whose value exceeds a given threshold. This results in the closing of an electrical circuit which transmits an appropriate signal to the controls of the EDM machine in order to interrupt the relative movement of the head. The device enables any shock or abnormal stress acting on the end of the machining head to be detected. By means of an O-ring seal (7) acting as a hinge, the part (1) and the piece (12) are returned to their original positions when the stress disappears. Also, the seal (7) permits an overrun to occur.
Abstract:
A device for machining by electroerosion has a tool electrode driven in a rotary motion controlled by a servomotor and showing the shape of a solid of revolution around its axis of rotation. A measuring circuit continuously evaluates the degree of contamination of the machining dielectric liquid in relation to a reference value. The measurement is made by a transducer for the instantaneous voltage U.sub.i of each spark and by comparing it to a predetermined value U.sub.b, thus determining the proportion of so-called low-level sparks for which U.sub.i .ltoreq.U.sub.b, a signal being delivered when this proportion surpasses a predetermined threshold, or by a current transductor working during the waiting time preceding the striking of each spark, a signal being delivered when a predetermined current threshold is attained. A servo circuit modulates the rotation speed of the tool electrode as a function of this signal. The detector makes it possible to detect and remedy the appearance of ejected sparks.

Abstract:
In a travelling wire EDM apparatus having orientable swivelling wire guide and support members, or wire guide heads, the orientation of each wire guide head is effected by a pair of hydraulic slave cylinders each connected to a master cylinder. Each master cylinder has an input member displaceable along one direction and the desire inclination of each wire guide head is the resultant of the composite motions of the output members of the corresponding slave cylinders.
Abstract:
The rethreading mechanism of a travelling wire EDM apparatus has a scrap wire disposal mechanism for disposing of the unusable length of electrode wire, or scrap, remaining in the machining zone after accidental rupture of the wire. The wire scrap disposal mechanism takes the form of a shaft having a bifurcated end defining tines between which the wire passes. Upon accidental rupture of the wire, the bifurcated shaft is automatically set in rotation such as to wind the length of wire between the shaft bifurcated end and the point of rupture of the wire in a bundle around the bifurcated end, and simultaneously exert a pull on a length of unused wire, which is also caused to wind around the shaft bifurcated end, such as to straighten the wire upstream of the bifurcated shaft. After cutting off the wire, the bundle of scrap wire around the bifurcated shaft is pushed off such as to fall in a disposal chute.
Abstract:
Support and guiding means for a wire electrode in an electro-erosion machining apparatus comprising a V-block support and guide having two angularly disposed guiding surfaces substantially parallel to the wire electrode longitudinal axis mounted on a base automatically orientable radially about the wire longitudinal axis such that the axis of a linear cut through the workpiece or, alternatively, the tangent of a curvilinear cut substantially bisects the angle formed by the two angularly disposed guiding surfaces.
Abstract:
An EDM device includes two support bars bearing on the same reference surfaces as the workpiece. Gibs are provided which engage into driving units able to displace them axially while holding them at a small distance under one support bar. The other support bar carries the receiving units wherein the gibs engage at the end of their stroke. Each driving unit may push the gib engaged therein against the lower surface of the respective bar. Whenever one or several such gibs are stopped under a part cut out of the workpiece, the part will lie thereon and remains fixed even after the electrode has completed a closed path cutout by electroerosion separating the cut-out part from the workpiece. The cut-out part may then be automatically removed by means of a mobile member equipped with a suction cup.
