Each pair of the display electrodes is made up of a scanning electrode and a sustain electrode which are arranged parallel to each other on the first substrate. The second substrate is disposed opposite to the first substrate. A discharge space is formed between the first substrate and second substrate. The data electrodes are arranged in a direction perpendicular to the display electrodes on the second substrate. The data electrode is wider in peripheral portion of the second substrate than in a central portion of the second substrate.

    摘要: A plasma display panel has high definition, high luminance, and low power consumption. In the plasma display panel, the front panel is provided thereon with display electrodes, a dielectric layer, and a protective layer. The display electrodes are formed on the front glass substrate. The dielectric layer coats the display electrodes, and the protective layer is formed on the dielectric layer. The rear panel is provided thereon with address electrodes and barrier ribs for partitioning the discharge space in the direction crossing to the display electrodes. The front and rear panels are opposed to each other with a discharge space therebetween filled with a discharge gas. The protective layer on the dielectric layer includes an underlying film, and aggregated particles adhered on the underlying film, the aggregated particles being formed by aggregating crystal grains of magnesium oxide. The underlying film contains metal oxides composed of at least two oxides selected from magnesium oxide, calcium oxide, strontium oxide, and barium oxide. According to an X-ray diffraction analysis of the surface of the underlying film, in a specific plane direction, the metal oxides have a diffraction angle peak between the minimum and maximum diffraction angles of simple substances of the oxides composing the metal oxides.

A barrier rib is formed by longitudinal barrier ribs portion orthogonal to the scan electrodes and sustain electrodes on the front substrate, and side barrier rib portions crossing with these longitudinal barrier rib portions, to form cell spaces and form interstice portions between the cell spaces, and priming electrodes for producing a discharge between the front substrate and the rear substrate within the interstice portions are formed. Stable priming discharge is produced with certainty by the scan electrode and the priming electrode, hence decreasing the discharge time lag at the time of addressing and stabilizing the addressing characteristics.

    摘要: A PDP does not suffer from dielectric breakdown even though a dielectric layer is thin, with the problems of conventional PDPs, such as cracks appearing in the glass substrates during the production of the PDP being avoided. To do so, the surface of silver electrodes of the PDP is coated with a 0.1-10 &mgr;m layer of a metallic oxide, on whose surface OH groups exist, such as ZnO, ZrO2, MgO, TiO2, Al2O3, and Cr2O3. The metallic oxide layer is then coated with the dielectric layer. It is preferable to form the metallic oxide layer with the CVD method. The surface of a metallic electrode can be coated with a metallic oxide, which is then coated with a dielectric layer. The dielectric layer can be made of a metallic oxide with a vacuum process method or the plasma thermal spraying method. The dielectric layer formed on electrodes with the CVD method is remarkably thin and flawless. When the dielectric layer is formed with the vacuum process method or the plasma spraying method, warping and cracks conventionally caused by baking the dielectric layer are prevented. Here, borosilicate glass including 6.5% or less by weight of alkali can be used as the glass substrate.
