Abstract: An apparatus and method particularly useful in treatments and therapies directed at the kidneys such as the prevention of radiocontrast nephropathy (RCN) arising from diagnostic procedures using iodinated contrast materials. A series of treatment schemes are provided based upon local therapeutic agent delivery to the kidneys that can be used as a prophylactic treatment for patients undergoing interventional procedures that have been identified as being at an elevated risk for developing RCN as well as for low risk patients. The methods may include pre-exposure and post contrast exposure treatments alone or in combination with the local delivery of therapeutic agents to the kidneys. Among the agents identified for such treatments are normal saline and the vasodilators papaverine and fenoldopam mesylate and appropriate dosing is provided.

Abstract: A catheter assembly is provided having an inner member and an outer member extending along a longitudinal axis, the inner member and the outer member having a coaxial configuration and dimensioned for relative axial movement. The outer member may include an anti rotation member adapted to engage with a longitudinal slot formed on the inner member so as to maintain rotational alignment between inner member and outer member. The inner member can be made with a proximal portion made from a tubing such as hypotubing or a coil tubing. The inner member also may be made with a proximal portion made with a support mandrel. A coil tubing can be utilized to form the guide wire receiving member which is attached to the inner member.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a system and method for producing T cells from stem cell populations. Specifically exemplified herein is a culture system and method that produces CD4 cells and/or T cell subtypes from a CD4 lineage using a sample of hematopoietic stem cells. Adult hematopoietic precursor/stem cells (HPC) are progenitors to all lineages of immune cells. There has been limited success in generating functional CD4 T cells with this convenient culture system. Also disclosed herein is a novel stromal cell line expressing DL1, interleukin-7 (IL-7), and FMS-like tyrosine kinase 3 ligand (Flt3-L). This improved culture system can greatly facilitate the study of late T cell development and enables immunotherapeutic applications.

Abstract: A single, common correlation filter (CF) core is provided in a receiver for recovery of data from received code division multiple access (CDMA) signals. Signals are received over CDMA channels with different data rates, where the received signals include user information such as pilot and data symbols that have been spread according to different despreading rates including tier 1, tier 2 and tier 3 rates, where tier 1 is the smallest despreading rate. The received signal is correlated at the smallest despreading rate in the correlation filter (CF) by time multiplexing delayed versions of the pseudorandom noise (PN) code. The correlated information is then demultiplexed and pilot-aided QPSK demodulated. The demodulated information is summed at the proper integer multiple of the tier 1 rate to achieve tier 2 and tier 3 despreading rates. According to an embodiment, the three strongest multipaths components in terms of the received power are selected in a window or time period for optimal information recovery.

Abstract: A system and method is provided that is adapted to allow for rapid cannulation of a guidewire into a branch lumen extending from a main lumen in a body of a patient, and in particular into two renal arteries extending from an abdominal aorta wall. A dual lumen catheter shaft delivers first and second pre-shaped guidewires to the location of the renal arteries in the aorta, such that the first and second pre-shaped guidewires self-cannulate within the renal arteries. Additional guidewires and/or interventional devices may be incorporated into the system and method for use with the catheter shaft, or over the two pre-shaped guidewires, to meet a particular need for a particular patient or intended procedure.
