    Abstract: A sedation device (1) has a housing (2) having a ventilator chamber (3) and an associated patient chamber (4) in communication with the ventilator chamber (3). A filter (5) is mounted between the ventilator chamber (3) and the patient chamber (4) and forms a common gas-permeable dividing wall between the ventilator chamber (3) and the patient chamber (4). An inlet port (6) is provided on the ventilator chamber (3) for connection via a Y-piece to a ventilator. An outlet port (9) of the patient chamber (4) connects via a patient breathing tube (10) with a patient. An associated pair of inserts are provided, namely a first insert (14) fixedly mounted in the ventilator chamber (3) and a second insert (15) fixedly mounted in the patient chamber (4). One or both of these inserts (14, 15) are mounted within the housing (2) to vary the internal volume of the housing (2) as required to suit different patients. The inserts (14, 15) are nestably engageable with an inner wall of the housing (2).

    Abstract: An active and passive humidification device for mounting in a patient ventilation circuit comprises a housing having a ventilator chamber and an associated patient chamber communicating with the ventilator chamber through a gas permeable filter mounted between the ventilator chamber and the patient chamber. This filter forms a passive humidifier which is operable in use to capture and reflect heat and moisture received from a patient back to the patient. The ventilator chamber has a ventilator connector port for connection to a ventilator. The patient chamber has a patient connector port for connection to a patient breathing tube. A humidity generating device is integrated in the housing and is operable to control the humidity of air delivered from the patient chamber through the patient connector port to a patient and provides for active humidification of the breathing air. The humidity generating device, an air flow sensor, a temperature sensor and a ceramic heater plate of the device are all connected to an associated controller which regulates operation of the humidity generating device and heater plate to maintain air at a desired temperature and humidity for delivery from the patient chamber to a patient.

    Abstract: A sedation device has a housing divided internally into a ventilator chamber and an associated evaporator chamber which overlap and are separated by a filter mounted between the chambers and forming a common gas-permeable dividing wall between the chambers. An inlet port is provided at one end of the ventilator chamber at a top of the housing for connection to a patient ventilator in use. An outlet port on the evaporator chamber can be connected via a breathing tube to a patient. An evaporator is mounted within the evaporator chamber for delivery of a volatile sedative into the evaporator chamber during use.
