摘要： Expansion of an air bag can be smoothly effected even in a small space by controlling the air bag in thickness and introduction of the gas for expansion, and the protection of an occupant can be rapidly implemented with a relatively small volume of the gas. An air bag device comprises a first air chamber 12 for protection of the chest or the waist of an occupant, a second air chamber 14 for protection of the head of the occupant, and a lower portion of the diffuser bag 30 interposed therebetween for portioning out gas from an inflator 20, wherein the second air chamber 14 has a first tether 50 forming a gas passage 14a for guiding gas jetted from gas outlets of the lower portion of the diffuser bag 30 into the second air chamber 14 so as to go around the tether of a head protection region of an air bag 1, from the back side thereof toward the front side thereof, and has a second tether 52 for forming a gap provided at the lower end of the first tether 50 in the vicinity of the gas outlets, for letting a portion of the gas escape into a front part of the second air chamber 14.

摘要： A side airbag device provided at a seat back of a seat, comprises an airbag including a chest-abdomen protection portion to protect a chest and abdomen of an occupant seated and a waist protection portion to protect a waist of the occupant, and an inflator to supply gas to the airbag for an inflation at a vehicle side crash or a vehicle turnover, wherein the portions are partitioned by a partition portion that at least extends substantially rearward from an front edge of the airbag, and a recess is provided at an upper portion of the chest-abdomen protection portion. Accordingly, a whole part of side body including the chest, abdomen and waist can be properly protected regardless of the body size of the occupant, even for the occupant having the relatively small body size.

摘要： A gas generator for air bags including a housing (3) defined by a side cylinder (1b) having a plurality of gas outflowing holes (10) and an upper cover (1a) and a lower cover (2a) for closing ends of the side cylinder (1b); an igniter (4), a gas generating agent (6) and a cooling filter member (8) disposed in this order in the housing (3) from a center thereof toward a radially outward side thereof; and a metallic foil (11) disposed on an inner wall surface of the side cylinder (1b) to cover the gas outflowing holes (10) from inside. The cooling filter member (8) extends from the upper cover (1a) to the lower cover (2a). The cooling filter member (8) is cylindrical in shape and has a thick walled portion (8a) formed on an outside diameter side on an end axially opposite to the gas outflowing holes (10), and the thick walled portion (8a) is press fitted into an inner surface of the housing (3).

摘要： A gas generator that can controllably allow the airbag to inflate and expand slowly at an initial stage of the inflation and thereafter inflate and expand rapidly so that the intended function of the airbag can be fulfilled. In the gas generator, an enclosed space (S) in a housing (1) is partitioned into two combustion chambers (3, 4), in which gas generating agents (6), a filtering member (7) and an igniter (8, 9) are arranged, respectively. The combustion chambers (3, 4) are communicated to each other through the filtering member (7). The igniters are operated with time difference so that the airbag can be inflated and expanded moderately by a small amount of gas generated in one combustion chamber at the initial stage of inflation and then is inflated and expanded rapidly by a large amount of gas generated in the respective combustion chambers, thus achieving multistage control of the expansion of the airbag.

摘要： An inflatable airbag, which inflates and comes out from a side portion of a seat back, comprises a head-protection portion and a torso-protection portion which are formed separately. A volume of the head-protection portion for protecting an occupant's head is configured to be greater than that of the torso-protection portion for protecting at least an occupant's chest. A tether connecting the both airbag portions can provide a proper forward inflation of the head-protection portion, suppressing an upward inflation of the head-protection portion. An arrangement of a vent hole or a coating layer can make an inflation sustaining period of the head-protection portion longer than that of the torso-protection portion in the inflated condition.

摘要： A side airbag unit disposed in a side support of a seat capable of absorbing collision energy sufficiently during a side collision of a vehicle is described. In one example, the airbag unit comprises: a low expansion member disposed inside of a front skin of the seat, wherein one end of the low expansion member is attached to the inside of the front skin in the vicinity of a fragile part of the seat and the other end of the low expansion member is attached to the seatback frame through a slit. The low expansion member inhibits the front skin from expanding due to the inflation of the airbag, and a cushion pad located outside of the slit in the vehicle width direction and inside of the fragile part in the vehicle width direction is moved outward and frontward by the inflation of the airbag in a vehicle collision.
