摘要: Intubation apparatus including an airway device, or main tube, which is to be inserted via the patient's mouth and then into the patient's trachea or esophagus. Components within the main tube are selectively operable for establishing either a first airflow path along the length of the main tube or a second airflow path between the proximal end of the main tube and lateral passages provided in the main tube wall, depending on the location of the main tube. An auxiliary tube is secured to the main tube so that the interior of the auxiliary tube communicates with the interior of the main tube at a location downstream of the lateral passages provided in the main tube wall. A suction tube is insertable through the auxiliary tube and into the main tube to a location beyond the distal end of the main tube.

摘要: A medical or biological treatment device for creating a controlled "minienvironment" and which supplies a treatment or diagnostic modality to a region of a physiologic passage, the device including: a catheter having an outer surface, a distal end and a proximal end and having a blood bypass flow passage extending from the outer surface of the catheter at a first location between the proximal and distal ends and along the interior of the catheter to a location spaced distally from the first location; an inflatable balloon extending around the catheter and secured at the outer surface of the catheter; and a perforated fluid transfer member carried by the catheter and secured at the outer surface of the catheter between the balloon and the first location for permitting transfer of fluid to and from a region surrounding the fluid transfer member. The delivery system is designed to deliver one or more agents whose concentration can be varied to obtain an optimal effect in a "minienvironment" and to maintain nontoxic concentrations at other sites in the body.

摘要: A non-invasive cardiac device is disclosed which can be inserted through the esophagus and into the gastroesophageal junction region. Once in place, a selected portion of the device is urged adjacent the cardiac region. The device comprises an elongated conduit having a series of electrodes for sensing or recording electrical signals. A first means for positioning the device adjacent the gastroesophageal region is located adjacent a first end of the device. The device further includes a second means for positioning the device in the esophagus such that at least some of the electrodes are urged adjacent the cardiac region.

摘要: A collapsible and deployable filter for blocking debris and passing blood in a blood vessel in a patient's body, the filter including; a framework of a flexible material, constructed to have a radially compressed state, in which the framework is radially compressed by radial deforming forces, and a radially expanded state to obdurate an artery; and a flexible filter material secured to said framework and having pores dimensioned to prevent the passage of debris therethrough while allowing the passage of blood. The filter has, in the radially expanded state of the framework, a generally conical or frustoconical form with a large diameter end, a small diameter end opposite to the large diameter end, and a side surface extending between the ends. The filter has an opening that is free of filter material at the small diameter end or in the side surface.
