摘要： An automatic control apparatus having a camming means for operating a series of cam followers, a constant speed electric motor, and clutch and transmission means for selectively connecting the camming means to the constant speed motor to be driven thereby past the cam followers, such followers offering resistance to the movement of the camming means thereby when engaged by the camming means, is provided with rapid advance means associated between the clutch-transmission means and the camming means for storing energy received from the motor during operation thereof and for releasing the same to advance the camming means between engagements with the cam followers more rapidly than the advancement normally caused thereby by the motor. The transmission means has a drive shaft connected to the motor and the rapid advance means has a tubular member connected to the camming means and having an inside bore portion with a predetermined internal diameter, a wound wire spring secured at one end to the transmission means drive shaft and having an enlarged diameter portion adjacent the other end in a press fit in the tubular member to store energy during relative rotation between the drive shaft and tubular member prior to an operating cycle and for releasing such energy to rapidly advance the tubular member and associated camming means relative to the transmission means drive shaft during an operating cycle. The spring means is mounted in coaxial bores in a drive shaft and cam shaft, the latter having mating convex and concave bearing surfaces facilitating relative rotation therebetween during twisting and untwisting of the associated spring means.

摘要： A folding handle for a rotary mower. The handle is composed of two similar inverted U-shaped sections, an upper and lower, with the lower section being attached to the mower housing, and with the upper section overlapping the lower section for a portion of its length, and being pivotally connected to the lower section. A unique latch mechanism locks both sides of the upper and lower handle sections together rigidly in the upright operative position, and is easily released by one hand of the operator to allow the upper section to be folded forward to a generally horizontal position over the engine. The latching mechanism includes two sliding pins biased outwardly by two spring-wire handles. The upper handle section includes ramps to engage and push inwardly the pins as the upper handle section is being swung into the rigid operative position. Aligned holes in the upper handle section engage the pins to secure the upper handle section to the lower handle section.

摘要： Apparatus for fastening bar members to wooden post members for use as a basic unit in constructing playground equipment. A pair of support plates are placed on opposite sides of a clearance hole in the post member. Each support plate has a guide hole axially aligned with the clearance hole. A pair of internally threaded split rings threadedly engage the bar member. The external surface of a portion of each split ring is a conical section sized to engage the guide hole of one of the support plates on a tapered surface. Fastening is achieved by rotating the split rings on opposite sides to thread each toward the post member center. In an alternate embodiment, a segmented externally threaded sleeve is fixed to the bar member on each side of the post member so that the sleeve extends into the clearance hole, and a conventional nut is threaded onto the sleeve to engage the respective support plates.

摘要： A housing for a rotary lawn mower utilizing a cutting blade mounted for rotation on a vertical axis, the housing having a top wall and a depending circumferentially extending skirt. The top wall is formed to provide the top and side wall portions of a discharge chute which extends tangentially with respect to the skirt and angularly upwardly with respect to the top wall of the housing. A housing portion has a generally horizontal wall which underlies the top wall of the discharge chute and defines a bottom wall surface of the chute. The housing portion has a vertical wall which depends from the horizontal wall and cooperates with the housing skirt to define a cylindrical inner wall surface around the path of rotation of the blade and extending upwardly from the plane of the blade.

摘要： An improved blade for rotary lawn mowers, having outward tips with longitudinally extending cutting edges and a central portion with lateral flanges, and having medial reinforcing ribs extending longitudinally outward from locations inward of the termination of the flanges. Two embodiments are shown, one in which the blade is flat and the ribs do not extend outward as far as the beginnings of the cutting edges, and one which defines a pair of central dihedral angles and is outwardly discontinuous angularly in its connection to the cutting tips, and in which the ribs extend across the dihedral angles and the discontinuities beyond the inward beginnings of the cutting edges. The blades are of uniform thickness, and the ribs are narrower outwardly than inwardly, terminate outwardly in right circular conical surfaces and inwardly in oblique circular conical surfaces, and are of uniform height between the terminations.

摘要： A lawn mower starting interlock for the purpose of preventing starting of a mower under a predetermined condition, for example, when a wheel drive mechanism thereof may be engaged. Interlock apparatus applicable to Bendix-type starting mechanisms in which a starter pinion advances along a helical worm gear into engagement with an engine flywheel for driving rotation thereof to start the engine is disclosed. A brake spring carried by the starter pinion normally creates drag which causes the pinion to advance along the helical worm gear into flywheel engagement until the pinion reaches a restraining surface. The brake spring is configured or provided with an axial projection in the direction of advance of the pinion. A lever having a contact surface thereon may be actuated to a position interfering with advance of the projection, thereby impeding advance of the starting pinion and preventing engagement between pinion and flywheel.
