    摘要: An electrophoretic display apparatus includes a display unit, a signal voltage application circuit, and a common voltage application circuit. The display unit includes a first substrate, a second substrate facing the first substrate, a partition wall, a first electrode formed on the first substrate, a second electrode formed on the second substrate. A pixel space which is surrounded by the partition wall, the first substrate, and the second substrate contains dispersant suspending positively-charged particles and negatively-charged particles. The signal voltage application, circuit applies a signal voltage to the first electrode. The signal voltage includes a write signal voltage to display an image on the display unit, and a post-write signal voltage which gradually changes from the write signal voltage to a hold signal voltage, the hold signal voltage maintaining a display state of the display unit. The common voltage application circuit applies a common voltage to the second electrode.

    摘要: A liquid crystal display apparatus includes color filters, a display signal voltage application circuit, a common voltage application circuit, and a polarity inversion circuit. Each color filter corresponds to one of sub-pixels arranged two-dimensionally in a display section. The display signal voltage application circuit applies a display signal voltage to a pixel electrode of each of the sub-pixels. The common voltage application circuit applies a common voltage to a common electrode of each of the sub-pixels. The polarity inversion circuit inverts a polarity indicating a magnitude relationship between a pixel electrode voltage and the common voltage that is applied to the common electrode. The polarity inversion circuit makes the polarity of at least one of the sub-pixels arranged in a row of the display section different from the polarity of another sub-pixel of the same color arranged in the same row of the display section.

    摘要: Servo information is written in advance by distinctly defining the boundary between a servo information area into which the servo information is written and a blank area into which the servo information is not written in a manner that the boundary has a predetermined relationship with a reference track as a reference for a head position to be detected. The reference track is detected by displacing the head to read out the servo information so that the boundary is detected while the head is being displaced. The reference track is detected by computing a radial position of the detected boundary.

    摘要: In a liquid crystal display device using color filters, the area of each of color filters arranged on the inner surface of one of substrates in correspondence with the pixel areas is set to be smaller than that of each pixel area to form non-colored light exit areas, and color pixels are displayed with non-colored light which is not transmitted through the color filters and colored light which is transmitted through the color filters. Since high-luminance color pixels are displayed with these colored light and non-colored light, the screen can be made brighter. The liquid crystal display device further includes a reflecting member for reflecting external light incident from the front side of the device and transmitted through the liquid crystal layer toward the front side. In addition, in the liquid crystal display device, reflecting films for reflecting light incident from the front side of the device toward the front side are arranged on the inner surface of the front-side substrate in correspondence with the areas between the respective pixel areas, thereby making the portions between the respective pixel areas bright and further increasing the overall brightness of the screen.
