摘要: Disclosed are example efficient circuits that produce spark discharges for hydrocarbon conversion (or treatment of other mixtures) using a high-voltage rectified DC supply to discharge a capacitor (either internal or external) across a two-electrode gap, optimized to minimize waste energy by operating in a constant current, approximately-constant current, or constant power mode. The circuits may operate off of a standard electrical supply line (e.g. 120 VAC or 240 V AC, 60 Hz, single-phase or multi-phase). The disclosed approach is scalable to any number of discharge gaps while maintaining similar pulse characteristics and electrical efficiency.

摘要: Tumor resection is commonly practiced to prevent the progression of cancer. However, there are post-surgery concerns including the formation of a void that can allow cancer cells to escape at the surgery site, which increases the risk of metastasis. To counter this challenge, an embodiment includes a polyurethane-based shape memory foam as a tissue void-filling device that can also release anti-cancer drugs. Such foams may activate at body temperature and become malleable. Such properties may enable the foam to be shaped to precisely seal the tissue void and then serve as a drug-eluting device. Based on the drug composition with poly vinyl alcohol (PVA), the drug release profile from the foam may be altered depending on the application.

摘要: A system for providing an indication of the presence of molecular structures in a medium is provided. The system includes a radio frequency (RF) wireless antenna, batteryless sensor, and a network analyzer. The sensor has an ultra-high frequency dipole antenna that transmits data to the RF wireless antenna and a sensing element. The sensing element is operatively coupled to the dipolar antenna and detects the presence of molecular structures. When molecular structures are detected, data indicative of the presence of the molecular structures is transmitted to a radio frequency (RF) wireless communication antenna from the dipole antenna. The network analyzer receives the data from the RF wireless antenna and analyzes the data to determine a concentration of molecular structures.

摘要: A method of treating a Down syndrome (DS) subject with functional or at risk of decline of organ systems associated with accelerated aging due to over-production of H2S is disclosed. That method contemplates administering a pharmaceutical composition containing a H2S-reducing effective amount of hydrophilic polymer-substituted oxidized carbon nanoparticles (OCNPs) and an optional potentiating amount of lipoic acid or dihydrolipoic acid dissolved or dispersed in a physiologically acceptable diluent to the subject. The pharmaceutical composition can be administered parenterally as a liquid or per os as a solid or liquid.
