摘要: A shield for absorbing radiation emitted during generation of a radioisotope. The shield includes an inner portion fabricated from a first type of shielding material. The shield also includes an outer portion fabricated from a second type of shielding material wherein the outer portion serves as a mold for forming the inner portion. The inner portion may be fabricated from a material which shields against gamma rays such as concrete. The outer portion may be fabricated from a material which moderates neutrons such as high density polyethylene. Additional shielding materials may be embedded into the inner portion as desired.

摘要: The invention relates to a process employing a multi-directional heat pump and a cryo-trap to separate gases. One embodiment relates to a process that includes heating a gaseous stream comprising carbon dioxide, hydrogen, and a push gas to produce a first intermediate stream comprising an amount of methane; contacting the first intermediate stream with a first trapping material to remove an amount of a component selected from the group consisting of oxygen, water, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and combinations thereof from the first intermediate stream to produce a second intermediate stream; introducing the second intermediate stream to a separation zone comprising a surface of a second trapping material; employing a multi-directional heat pump to maintain the separation zone at a retaining temperature; retaining methane in the separation zone, while purging hydrogen from the separation zone; employing the multi-directional heat pump to adjust the separation zone to a releasing temperature; and releasing methane from the separation zone.

摘要: A data storage cartridge for a data storage disk drive has a marker including a latent illuminance material such as phosphor. A matte material on the cartridge or within the marker diffusely reflects charging light that is not absorbed by the latent illuminance material in the marker. This reduces noise and signal pollution in the light then emitted by the latent illuminance material. Accordingly, an accurate decay time can be determined. The decay time is checked to provide identification of different types or generations of data storage cartridges or provides a secure keying mechanism for authorized access to proprietary software.

摘要: The validity or authenticity of a latent illuminance material is established by heating or cooling the material to a predetermined temperature and then determining its decay time constant at that temperature. If the decay time constant is substantially equal to a predetermined value it is determined that the material is authentic. Thus, the authenticity of a material is determined by temporarily changing its decay time constant by way of temporarily changing the material's temperature using a heater or refrigerator. A light source illuminates the marker and the marker emits illuminance as phosphorescence. A photosensor detects the emitted illuminance, and the decay time constant is determined.

摘要: A data storage cartridge for a data storage disk drive has a latent illuminance marker. A reflective surface on the cartridge increases the intensity of the irradiance on the marker and illuminance from the marker. A light source illuminates the marker and the marker emits phosphorescence. A photosensor detects the emitted illuminance, and the decay time is determined. The decay time is checked to provide identification of different types or generations of data storage cartridges or provides a secure keying mechanism for authorized access to proprietary software.
