Abstract:
The invention relates to an arrangement of a blow pipe containing at least one gas permeable refractory plug. The blow pipe is disposed in the wall of a melt-containing vessel for the introduction of gases into the vessel. The blow pipe may be a metallic or ceramic pipe which passes through the vessel wall, and is longitudinally slidable in the vessel wall. Additional pieces of blow pipe in the form of pipe inserts can be added onto the blow pipe, which is in the wall vessel, to replenish the pipe insert material as it is consumed inside the vessel. The arrangement may include mechanical, pneumatic or hydraulic means to advance the pipe inserts into the vessel. The pipe inserts forming the blow pipe may be coated with a suitable lubricant. Alternatively, the pipe inserts may be surrounded by fire-bricks which may contain graphite.
Abstract:
A refractory bottom lining has extending therethrough at least one inclined decarburization or refining nozzle or tuyere. Surrounding the nozzle is an outer perforate brick having a hole therethrough. An inner brick fits within the hole of the outer brick and has a bore which is inclined at the same angle of inclination as the nozzle. The nozzle extends through the bore.
Abstract:
A tap spout, particularly for allowing molten metal to be discharged from oxygen-steel converters, includes a replaceable unit including a tubular wear lining and a jointing layer secured thereto. An inner lining of the tap spout may thus be repaired with relatively simple maintenance work by removing the inner lining and subsequently inserting the replaceable unit into an outer lining of the tap spout to form a new inner lining of the tap spout. The replaceable unit is adapted to facilitate either a press fit, and in particular, a fit ensured by axial compression of the jointing layer, or an expansion fit with the outer lining to secure the replaceable unit therein.
Abstract:
A vessel, such as a ladle or converter has a wall having extending therethrough a bore. A tube is fixed in a gas tight manner within the bore. The tube has therethrough a cylindrical passage. At least one gas permeable insert is fitted in a gas tight manner within the passage. The insert may be a pre-shaped insert or may be a mass tamped and packed into the passage. The insert may be replaced by drilling the insert from the passage of the tube and fitting a new insert within the passage. A gas connection is connected to the outer end of the tube to supply gas into the tube and through the insert into the interior of the vessel.
