The support arm is subdivided by way of a hinge joint into a section on the side of the wheel and into a section on the side of the body. Additionally, an intermediate guide member connects the support arm and shock absorber strut. A pivot axis between the universal joint of the intermediate guide member on the support arm side and the support joint intersects the line of action of a vertical force engaging at the point of contact of the wheel. The extension of the joint axis of the hinge joint also extends through this point of intersection. As a result of this construction the shock absorber strut 3 is to remain free of transverse forces.

Variable viewing angle liquid crystal display screen systems are disclosed. They are useful, e.g. in automatic teller machines where, during parts of a transaction with a user, it is undesirable that information on screen can be read by others. In accordance with the invention, interposed in a conventional display arrangement of reflector (2), backlight (1), diffuser (3), optional brightness enhancer (4, 5) and transmission type screen (6) are a collimator (10) and a variable diffuser (11). If the variable diffuser (11) is set to transparent, the light passing through the transmission type screen (6) is still collimated and accordingly the display on the screen is only effectively visible over a narrow viewing angle. If the diffuser (11) is set to diffuse the collimated light, then the display is visible over a very wide range of angles.

A rear wheel suspension for motor vehicles, especially for driven rear wheels which comprises a wheel carrier supporting the wheel, which is connected with the vehicle body by way of an upper cross guide member and two lower cross guide members. Additionally, a longitudinal arm is pivotally connected with the wheel carrier. This longitudinal arm is supported at the forward lower cross guide member between the two ends thereof by way of a connecting bearing which couples this guide member with the longitudinal arm approximately in the vertical direction but permits approximately horizontal relative movements between the guide member and the longitudinal arm. An instantaneous longitudinal center of rotation can be realized by this type of construction about which the wheel pivots during the spring compression movement whereas the real point of pivotal connection of the longitudinal arm is located considerably lower and nearer the wheel.

Unilaterally acting longitudinal forces can be absorbed elastically in the bearing without causing a significant rotation of the auxiliary frame about a vertical axis which would lead to undesired steering movements of the two wheels of an axle.

An individual wheel suspension is disclosed for a non-steered wheel of a motor vehicle such as an automobile which undergoes a change in camber by spring travel. The individual wheel suspension comprises a trailing arm which is articulated in the direction transverse to the lengthwise axis of the vehicle by at least one wishbone and connected in the lengthwise direction of the vehicle to the vehicle body via a lengthwise arm with a swivel bearing having a swivel axis which lies essentially in the direction transverse to the lengthwise axis of the vehicle, and an auxiliary device which engages the lengthwise arm at a distance from the swivel axis and by means of which the lengthwise arm is pivoted in the direction transverse the lengthwise axis of the vehicle along the swivel axis as the wheel goes up and down. The wheel suspension is characterized in that the auxiliary device engages the lengthwise arm in the vicinity of the swivel bearing-in design position of the vehicle at a vertical distance from a swivel axis whereby the auxiliary device can influence the toe-in on the wheel as it goes up and down with low construction costs and small space requirements.
