Abstract:
A seal assembly for sealing a space between a housing and a rotary shaft includes a generally annular sealing member having a central axis and inner and outer circumferential surfaces extending about the axis, at least a portion of the inner surface providing a sealing surface engageable with the shaft outer surface so as to define a seal interface with opposing axial ends. The sealing surface is configured to direct substances entering the interface toward at least one of the axial ends. Further, an annular biasing member is disposed about the sealing member outer surface and configured to exert a radially-inwardly directed force on the sealing member so as to generate contact pressure within the seal interface. The biasing member is arranged on the sealing member such that at least a portion of the biasing member extends axially in general alignment with at least a portion of the sealing surface.
Abstract:
A seal assembly is for sealing a space between a housing and a shaft rotatable about a central axis. The seal assembly includes a seal body connectable with the housing and having an inner circumferential sealing surface. The sealing surface has opposing axial ends and is slidably contactable with the shaft outer surface to define a sealing interface. An annular biasing member, preferably a garter spring, is disposed about a portion of the seal body and has a centerline. The biasing member exerts a biasing force directed radially inwardly toward the centerline, such that the seal exerts a contact pressure on the shaft. Further, the biasing member is angularly positioned on the seal body such that the contact pressure extends axially along the shaft axis to direct substances entering the sealing interface toward a proximal axial end of the sealing surface when the shaft rotates about the central axis.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for providing a resting area for an infant or a pet is disclosed. The resting area includes a support structure and a holding structure for holding the resting area over, or at least partially above an adult sleeping area. This enables the resting area to be easily accessible to an adult located in the adult sleeping area. The resting area is optionally movable in various manners, such as vertically, horizontally, rotatably, and swingably. The apparatus may include a horizontal arm extending from a support frame. A sleep divider is optionally provided in order to enable one adult to attend to an infant or pet while decreasing the disturbance to another adult on the opposite side of the divider. Various additional optional features may include providing heating means to a portion of the rest area, a convenient supply tray, lighting means, and various holding structure configurations for convenience and comfort.
Abstract:
A condom tester and applicator comprises a hollow cylinder (10) having an open proximal end (12) and a distal end (14). The hollow cylinder is constructed of a transparent material, such as clear plastic. The distal end of the cylinder possesses an end-face (16) which contains a one-way valve (18). The inner surface of the hollow cylinder accommodates a plurality of longitudinal grooves (22). A mounting flange (24) is formed at the periphery of the proximal end of the hollow cylinder. A condom is tested by sealingly installing it into the hollow cylinder and creating a pressure differential across the condom membrane by forcing out the air inside the cylinder through the one-way valve and thus distending the condom. The condom is donned onto a penis by inserting the penis inside the hollow cylinder with the condom inflatably installed therein, and transferring the hem ring of the condom from the mounting flange onto the base of the penis.
Abstract:
A seal assembly of the present invention is used for sealing a space between a housing and a rotary shaft disposed at least partially within the housing. The seal assembly includes a generally annular sealing member having a central portion and two axially-spaced apart side portions each extending generally radially from the central portion to define a generally annular groove. The assembly includes a generally annular support member disposed within the sealing member groove and configured to retain the central portion disposed generally against the other one of the shaft and the housing. The assembly eliminates problems associated with prior art designs such as static leakage of oil, clogging up the spirals with carbonized oil that negatively impact lifecycle of the fluid seals.
Abstract:
A seal assembly is for sealing between a housing and a rotary shaft includes an annular sealing member coupled with the housing and having inner and outer circumferential surfaces and a plurality of projections extending radially from the outer surface and spaced circumferentially about a central axis. Each projection has first and second axial ends and the plurality of projections define first and second projections. An annular biasing member is disposed about the sealing member outer surface and exerts an inwardly directed force on the sealing member. The biasing member has first and second ends and is arranged on the sealing member with the biasing member first end contacting the second end of each first projection and the biasing member second end contacting the first end of each second projection. As such, the biasing member extends axially and circumferentially between the first and second projections.
Abstract:
A seal for sealing a space between a shaft and a housing, includes a base member coupled with one of the housing and the shaft and a generally annular, elastomeric sealing member sealingly contactable with the other one of the housing and the shaft. The sealing member is coupled with the base member such that the sealing member is circumferentially strained to reduce friction between the sealing member and the other one of the housing and the shaft. The seal assembly is preferably formed by providing a base member having a generally annular carrier portion and a generally annular, elastomeric sealing member, coupling the sealing member with the annular portion of the base member, and plastically deforming at least a section of the base member carrier portion such that the sealing member is circumferentially strained.
Abstract:
An apparatus for receiving a plurality of mold assemblies having a first mold portion and a second mold portion operably connected together for forming parts. The apparatus includes a mold holding member and a pair of spaced apart support members extending from the mold holding member to a manufacturing floor. A carriage device is cooperable with the mold holding member for engaging and moving the mold assembly. A lifting mechanism is used for moving the carriage device relative the mold holding member to move the mold assembly to be engaged with mold holding member. A turn table adjacent to the mold holding member holds the mold assemblies and is movable relative the mold holding member thereby replacing the mold assemblies. A controller is operably connected to the mold holding member and the turn table thereby moving the turn table relative the mold holding member to interchange the mold assemblies.

An apparatus for receiving a mold assembly having a first mold portion and a second mold portion operably connected with one another for forming parts. The apparatus includes a mold holding member and a pair of support members spaced from one another and extending from the mold holding member to a manufacturing floor. A carriage device is cooperable with the mold holding member for engaging and moving the mold assembly. A lifting mechanism of the apparatus is used for moving the carriage device relative the mold holding member to move the mold assembly to be engaged with mold holding member. The lifting mechanism and the carriage device apply forces to opposite surfaces of the mold holding member to prevent the mold holding member from deflection and distortion to eliminate offset between the first mold portion and the second mold portion thereby eliminating defective parts as said apparatus forms the parts.
Abstract:
A wear sleeve assembly for a seal on a shaft includes a sleeve having inner and outer circumferential surfaces, the outer surface being engageable by a seal inner surface at a contact location to prevent fluid flow between the seal inner surface and the sleeve outer surface. The sleeve inner surface defines a bore sized to receive a portion of the shaft with clearance. A coupler is configured to connect the sleeve with the shaft and provides a clearance space between the sleeve inner surface and a shaft outer surface at about the seal contact location. Thereby, the sleeve is adjustably positionable relative to the shaft so that the sleeve remains generally centered within the seal as the sleeve and shaft rotate about the axis. The coupler preferably includes an annular body with first and second axially-spaced, relatively displaceable sections for displacing the sleeve relative to the shaft.
