Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to an uninterruptible power supply. The uninterruptible power supply comprises a switch, a power management module, an inverter and a controller. The switch is arranged between a load and a power source, the power source configured to supply power to the load. The power management module comprises a main energy storage and configured to reduce a ripple experienced by the main energy storage. The inverter is arranged between and coupled to the power management module and the load. The controller is coupled to the power management module, the inverter and the switch, the controller configured to control the inverter to regulate output voltage magnitude and frequency by regulating the power exchange between the inverter and the power source. According to embodiments of the present disclosure, the overcharging of the energy storage during sudden load rejections or utility phase jumps can be avoided.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method for operation of an offline uninterrupted power supplyfor providing power to a load in case of failure of a power source, the uninterrupted power supply comprising at least one disconnect switch, which is arranged between the power source and the load, at least one energy storage, at least one power converter, which is arranged between the at least one energy storage and the load at a load side of the disconnect switch, and a control device for controlling the at least one power converter to provide power from the at least one energy storage to the load in case of failure of the power source, comprising the steps of identifying a power quality event, differentiating the identified power quality events to separate load side events from power supply side quality events, and upon identification of a power supply side power quality event from an identified power quality event, providing power from the at least one energy storage to the load. The present invention also provides a offline uninterrupted power supply, in particular a medium-voltage uninterrupted power supply, to perform the above method.

Abstract: A method of regulating frequency of plurality of uninterruptible power supply units and corresponding uninterruptible power supply (UPS) unit. The method includes broadcasting, to a controller of a UPS unit, an expected synchronization direction to other UPS units via a communication link, the expected synchronization direction being determined based on a frequency of the corresponding UPS units and a frequency of a grid. The method includes obtaining the expected synchronization directions of other UPS units via the communication link; determining a major synchronization direction based on the expected synchronization direction of each UPS unit; and regulating a frequency of each UPS unit based on the major synchronization direction.

Abstract: The present invention is concerned with pre-magnetizing a Modular Multilevel power Converters connected transformer in order to moderate inrush currents upon connecting the transformer to an electric grid. The invention takes advantage of the high amount of stored energy in MMC converters as compared to other converter types. This stored energy is used to pre-magnetize the converter-connected transformer, therefore no additional or dedicated pre-magnetizing hardware is required in addition to the charging hardware provided to charge the converter capacitors. As the transformer pre-magnetizing takes place subsequent to the converter charging, the converter charging circuit is not used to, and therefore does not need to be designed to, directly magnetize the transformer.
