摘要: An endoscope lens cleaning system for use in removing surgical debris from the objective lens of an endoscope has a sheath adapted to receive the endoscope, carrying a control switch and having an open distal end in fluid communication with a proximally mounted luer lock for removably engaging the distal luer connection of a tubing set. The tubing set is connected to and engaged with a peristaltic pump including a microprocessor or controller adapted to respond to actuation of the control switch and execute software including program steps for operation of the pump. The pump controller is programmed to execute a scrub cycle each time the clinician actuates the control switch mounted on the preferably disposable sheath. Scrub cycles are executed in a sequence of steps including a forward or outflow motion of the pump to dispense a first selected volume of irrigation fluid through the sheath and over the endoscope objective lens; a brief pause follows, to allow any residual fluid pressure to dissipate, and a reverse or inflow motion of the pump next withdraws or retracts any residual fluid droplets from the endoscope objective lens and into the sheath. The pump controller is programmed to perform two normal scrub cycles followed by a clear or purge cycle wherein the forward portion of the cycle dispensing irrigation fluid over the endoscope objective lens is longer than usual, thereby flushing any residual body fluids, other surgical debris or air from the sheath and restoring optimal lens cleaning system performance. The finger activated control switch is preferably releasably mounted directly on a disposable sheath, as opposed to being incorporated in a foot pedal.

摘要: An intramedullary fixation assembly usable with different long bone types and a guide assembly for guiding deployment of the intramedullary fixation assembly. The intramedullary fixation assembly includes a fixation member that has ends and a curved body extending between the ends. The curved body of the fixation member has a radius of curvature configured to extend through the medullary canal regardless of the long bone anatomy. Fasteners fix the fixation member to the bone fragments and are guided by a guide assembly. The guide assembly includes a guide body defining openings configured to guide the fasteners through openings defined in the fixation member and into the bone fragments. A fixation end of the guide body includes a pair of opposing, converging surfaces that are configured to engage in a positive fit with an exposed end of the fixation member accessible through the side aperture in the first fragment.

摘要: An apparatus for retaining first and second cervical vertebrae of a spinal column in a desired spatial relationship includes a pair of longitudinal members positionable along the spinal column. A first plate connectable to the first vertebra has an inner side surface for engaging an anterior surface of the first vertebra. The first plate interconnects the pair of longitudinal members. First fastener means is engageable with the first plate for connecting the first plate to the first vertebra. The first fastener means has a threaded end portion for engaging the first vertebra. A second plate connectable to the second vertebra has an inner side surface for engaging an anterior surface of the second vertebra. The second plate interconnects the longitudinal members. Second fastener means is engageable with the second plate for connecting the second plate to the second vertebra. The second fastener means has a threaded end portion for engaging the second vertebra.

摘要: An apparatus retaining first and second vertebrae of a spinal column in a desired spatial relationship includes a longitudinal member positionable along the spinal column. A member, such as a plate, connectable with the first vertebra has first and second fastener openings and a portion engageable with the longitudinal member. A first fastener extendable through the first fastener opening in the member has a first end portion for attachment to the first vertebra and has a longitudinal axis. A second fastener extendable through the second fastener opening in the member has a first end portion for attachment to the first vertebra and has a longitudinal axis. The longitudinal axes of the first and second fasteners converge at an acute angle as viewed in a sagittal plane when the first and second fasteners connect the member with the first vertebra. The member connectable with the first vertebra has a body portion and has a lip portion projecting from the body portion of the member. The lip portion of the member is engageable with a surface of the first vertebra facing toward the second vertebra.

摘要: An apparatus for retaining first and second bone portions in a desired spatial relationship comprises a first member positionable along the first and second bone portions. A second member connectable with the first bone portion has surface member defining an opening. A fastener is extendable through the opening in the second member to connect the second member to the first bone portion. The fastener has a first portion for engaging the first bone portion and a second portion for clamping the first member against the second member to fix the first and second members against relative movement. The first member is also connected to the second bone portion.

摘要: A system is provided for generating electricity from a fluid pressurized via a natural resource such as air compressed through a windmill, the compressed air stored in tanks by a windmill operated compressor, where the stored compressed air is then used to operate a turbine. The turbine has a nozzle configured to increase velocity of the compressed air entering the turbine. The rotor of the turbine has flat annular discs each set apart from one another by spacers to form a rotor stack with no central shaft. Permanent magnets are positioned radially about the end of the rotor stack. The magnets are arranged such that their poles radially alternate to interact with static wire coils positioned about the ends of the rotor stack to produce alternating current electricity. The compressed air enters the turbine at a tangent along the outer periphery of the rotor and exit axially through a central exhaust port.
