    摘要: A technique for driving a liquid crystal apparatus having an effective display area and a non-display unit area is provided. When a bistable liquid crystal element is used, a voltage must be continuously applied to the non-display unit area to maintain a uniform white or black display state. Durability of the non-display unit is particularly desired. In this invention, the non-display unit includes first and second stripe electrodes disposed perpendicular to each other. First and second drive bipolar pulses are respectively applied to the first and second stripe electrodes with a phase difference between these bipolar pulses.

A driver applies a scan signal to the scan signal electrode and an information signal to the information signal electrode, an image information stores image information to be displayed on the display panel, a display mode storer stores a display mode of the image information to be displayed on the display panel, and a scan mode storer stores a scan mode corresponding to temperature information of the display panel. In addition, a drive condition controller controls the drive conditions of the display panel in accordance with an environmental temperature, and a display controller reads out target information from the image information storing means, controls the drive condition control means in accordance with the display mode stored in the display mode storer and the scan mode stored in the scan mode storer, and displays the target image information on the display panel.

    摘要: A horizontal synchronizing signal is applied as a reference signal and a voltage-controlled oscillator outputs a display clock signal on the basis of the frequency of the horizontal synchronizing signal. The frequency of the display clock signal is frequency-divided in accordance with a frequency-dividing value selected from among a plurality of frequency-dividing signals stored in advance, the difference in frequency between the frequency-divided display clock signal and the horizontal synchronizing signal and the phase difference between them are obtained by a phase comparator, and the frequency of the signal outputted by the voltage-controlled oscillator is decided in dependence upon the frequency difference. In an interval in which a vertical synchronizing signal turns off and the frequency of the horizontal synchronizing signal fluctuates, the reference signal and the horizontal synchronizing signal input to the phase comparator are held fixed to prevent a fluctuation in the outputted display clock.

    摘要: A display apparatus includes a display panel having a scanning line and an information line and circuitry for generating and outputting image information periodically. A horizontal synchronizing signal determining a single period of the image information is output sequentially, with an interval between sequential outputtings. A writing time necessary for writing image information on the scanning line is determined and the writing time is divided by a corresponding interval of the horizontal synchronizing signal to obtain a quotient. The quotient is then rounded up into the next highest integer N. The apparatus then calculates a thinned out value (N-1), thins out the image information during a time corresponding to a number of periods based on the thinned out value and transfers the thinned out image information to the display panel. As a result, proper synchronization between the supply of data and the scanning of the display is provided, even for low frequency, high definition scanning.
