摘要： There is provided a blue-green illumination system, including a semiconductor light emitter, and a luminescent material, wherein the system has an emission with CIE color coordinates located within an area of a of a pentagon on a CIE chromaticity diagram, whose corners have the following CIE color coordinates: i) x=0.0137 and y=0.4831; ii) x=0.2240 and y=0.3890; iii) x=0.2800 and y=0.4500; iv) x=0.2879 and y=0.5196; and v) x=0.0108 and y=0.7220. The luminescent material includes two or more phosphors. The illumination system may be used as the green light of a traffic light or an automotive display.

Terbium or lutetium may be partially substituted with Y, La, Gd, and Yb. In particular, the scintillator composition contains both terbium and lutetium. The scintillators are characterized by high light output, reduced afterglow, short decay time, and high X-ray stopping power.

摘要： A light source comprises an organic light-emitting device, which emits radiation having a first spectrum, and a phosphor layer, which absorbs a portion of the light emitted by the organic light-emitting layer and which emits light having a second spectrum. The organic light-emitting device comprises an organic light-emitting layer disposed between a pair of electrodes, and at least a charge-blocking layer disposed between the organic light-emitting layer and one of the electrodes. The phosphor layer typically absorbs less than all of the light emitted by the organic light-emitting layer and typically covers the entire organic light-emitting device. The light emitted by the organic light-emitting layer is mixed with the light emitted by the phosphor layer to produce light having a third spectrum.

摘要： An edge lit illumination system is directed to providing backlighting utilizing a luminescent impregnated lightguide. The apparatus includes an LED radiation source providing a first radiation and a lightguide optically coupled to the LED radiation source including a luminescent material embedded or coated on an output surface of the lightguide designed to absorb the first radiation, and emit one or more radiations. The illumination system may further include additional optical components such as reflective layers, for directing radiation striking the back surfaces of the light guide back into the lightguide, as well as diffusion layers, UV reflectors, and polarizers.

摘要： The current invention provides a persistent phosphor blend, along with techniques for making and using the blend. The persistent phosphor blend is made of at least one persistent phosphor combined with at least one other phosphor, where the excitation spectra of the one or more other phosphors overlap the emission spectra of the one or more persistent phosphors. The choice of the phosphors used allows the decay time and emission colors to be tuned for the specific application. In another embodiment, the invention provides a method for making persistent phosphor blends with tunable colors. In yet another embodiment, applications for such a persistent phosphor blend are provided.
