摘要: A method to change the IP address of a server from a remote operator station, where that server comprises an HTTP server having a first IP address, and where that server is capable of communicating with one or more remote operator stations. One of those remote operator stations submits to the server, using the first IP address, an IP address change request. That IP address change request includes discontinuing use of the first IP address and commencing use of a second IP address. After receipt of the IP address change request, the server generates an HTML page comprising an embedded applet, where that applet is capable of monitoring the TCP/IP connection between the remote operator station and the server. The server provides that HTML page/applet to the remote operator station. Thereafter, the remote operator station continuously displays the status of the IP address change request using the provided applet. After the IP address change request is completed, the remote operator station communicates with the server using the second IP address.

摘要: In a user interactive multitasking data processing system, a comprehensive managing subsystem is constructed for managing queued processing of tasks of a particular type that ordinarily are not handled on a queued basis by the associated operating system. The subsystem is constructed around a task control utility which lacks capability for controlling required display presentation and queue managing functions for the respective task type. The utility is adapted to interface with operating system elements that ordinarily perform display and queue management functions relative to tasks other than the tasks handled by the utility. In the embodiment specifically disclosed, a utility for managing queued processing of page image data (e.g. data produced by document scanners or other image capture devices) interfaces with Presentation Manager and Print Spooler elements of the OS/2.TM. Operating System. The utility per se lacks functional capabilities for display and queue management, which are required for managing the processing of associated image data, and therefore requires considerably less storage capacity than it would need if such capabilities were included. These functions are performed by the OS/2 elements to which the utility interfaces. However, the utility accesses image data in the queues created by the OS/2 Spooler transparent to (i.e. without cooperation of) the Spooler, when transferring such data between the queues and associated processing applications. Thus, the utility operates more efficiently than it would if required to invoke the Spooler when making such transfers.

摘要: Anomaly-driven software for capturing and automating responses to computer anomalies is disclosed. Computer anomalies are processed by identifying the occurrence of an anomaly and correcting the computer anomaly by initiating a stored corrective action based on a user's input for resolving the anomaly.

摘要: A method for modifying a logical library configuration from a remote management application which reduces the number of separate UI display panels a user has to view, and also reduces the number of pages requested from the server. A single UI display panel displays a configuration of all logical libraries of a similar media type in the single display panel. The configuration of all logical libraries of a similar media type can be modified within a configuration range, wherein a modification of one logical library results in the display panel displaying the effects of the modification on other defined logical libraries. For each separate logical library, the single UI display panel displays its allocated number of drives, its allocated number of storage slots, and its allocated number of control ports. The validity of a selected configuration is checked by automatically adjusting the hardware allocation of other effected libraries whenever the configuration of one logical library is changed.
