A system for heated gas fusing of toner on non-porous substrates is provided. The system uses (1) an extended fusing zone held at lower temperatures than needed for a roll nip or radiant fuser, and (2) a very low melt toner which can be fused at greatly reduced temperatures compared to conventional toners. In one form, the system is realized through (a) the use of heated gas as the low temperature extended zone fusing technology, and (b) the use of ultra-low melt (ULM) toner—which requires significantly reduced temperature compared to conventional toner. On non-porous packaging substrates the use of heated gas can limit the substrate temperature to 100° C.

Methods of leveling ink on substrates and apparatuses useful in printing are provided. An exemplary embodiment of the methods includes irradiating ink disposed on a surface of a porous substrate with radiation emitted by at least one radiant energy source. The radiation heats the ink to at least a viscosity threshold temperature of the ink to allow the ink to flow laterally on the surface to produce leveling of the ink. The ink is heated sufficiently rapidly that heat transfer from the ink to the substrate is sufficiently small during the leveling that ink at the substrate interface is cooled to a temperature below the viscosity threshold temperature thereby preventing any significant ink permeation into the substrate.

Marking material, such as ink, toner, etc., is controllably introduced into the propellant stream and imparted with sufficient kinetic energy thereby to be made incident upon a substrate. A multiplicity of channels for directing the propellant and marking material allow for high throughput, high resolution marking. Multiple marking materials may be introduced into the channel and mixed therein prior to being made incident on the substrate, or mixed or superimposed on the substrate without re-registration. The cartridge may be replacably attached to the marking apparatus, and may contain one or more marking materials, propellant, etc.

The present invention concerns laser diode arrays having an accurately spaced offset in the laser beams emanating from their respective laser stripes, and methods of their manufacture. The first method involves the mounting of at least two laser diodes on a submount such that the axes of the laser stripes between the two respective diodes are accurately spaced. The second method concerns the placement of a position mark on each diode at a accurate distance from the axis of the laser stripe such that the mark is easily detectable from a side view. The two diodes are then mounted with the axes of their laser stripes accurately spaced from the relative positioning of the position marks. The third method concerns the manufacture of laser diodes whose laser stripe axes are accurately spaced from at least one side edge of the diodes. The array of diodes is constructed such that the laser stripe axes are accurately spaced from each other relative to the side edges of accurate distance from their respective axes.

A two photoconductive stack photoreceptor has an electrically conductive substrate upon which are two photoconductive stacks with each photoconductive stack sensitive to or accessible to a different wavelength of light. After charging of the photoreceptor, areas of the photoreceptor are exposed to no light beams, a first light beam, a second light beam or both light beams which allows different toners to be deposited on the photoreceptor in response to the remaining areas of charges. This two photoconductive stack photoreceptor produces a color xerographic printing system. The photoreceptor can also have multiple photoconductive stacks.
