摘要: An electrically controllable optical lens apparatus makes use of fixed lenses and an active optical element together in a lens enclosure. The enclosure may be a barrel structure that is easily mounted to a camera device having an image sensor. The active optical element, such as a tunable liquid crystal lens, receives an electrical signal from the camera device via electrical conductors integral with the lens enclosure that provide electrical pathways between the active element on the interior of the enclosure and surface contacts on the camera device. The enclosure may be a two-piece structure, and the electrical conductors may be attached to either piece of the structure. The lens enclosure may also be threaded for attachment to the camera device. The electrical conductors may also use spring loaded contact portions or molded interconnect devices.

摘要: Liquid crystal optoelectronic devices are produced by fabricating a wafer-level component structure and affixing a plurality of discrete components to a surface structure prior to singulating the individual devices therefrom. After singulation, the individual devices include a portion of the wafer-level fabricated structure and at least of the discrete components. The wafer-level structure may include a liquid crystal and controlling electrodes, and the discrete components may include fixed lenses or image sensors. The discrete components may be located on either or both of two sides of the wafer-level structure. Multiple liquid crystal layers may be used to reduce nonuniformities in the interaction with light from different angles, and to control light of different polarizations. The liquid crystal devices may function as optoelectronic devices such as tunable lenses, shutters or diaphragms.

摘要: A portable fluid heating tool capable of heating a flow of water under mains pressure to about 107 degrees Celsius and has a connection to a water supply via a hose. Water flows through an electrical heater within the tool, then to a thermally controlled pressure regulating valve (80) and then to the outlet nozzle. This valve (80) has a moveable member such as a diaphragm (83) sealing off a pressure chamber (88). Movement of the diaphragm (83) causes a valve (85) to open or at least partly close. When closed the valve (85) impedes, or restricts the flow of water from an inlet (86) to an outlet (87) through the valve. On the other side of the diaphragm a small quantity of water is trapped within the pressure chamber (88), so that as the valve (80) heats up, pressure within the pressure chamber (88) rises as the water turns to water vapour and the air within the chamber also expands. This increase in pressure within the pressure chamber (88) causes the diaphragm (83) to move slightly outwardly causing a pintle (84) to allow the ball valve (85) to open and allow maximum flow of the heated water through the valve (80) to the nozzle of the tool.

摘要: A liquid, radiation-curable coating suitable for coating thermoplastic substrates is described. The coating composition can be formulated to achieve very low gloss at both high and low angles of incidence, and is suitable for application to moldable thermoplastic sheet, and in particular is suitable for application to thermoplastic olefin moldable sheet. Such coatings are useful in protecting thermoplastic substrates and achieving a low-gloss surface in a wide variety of applications including automotive interior parts, furniture, and artificial leather articles.
