    摘要: A method for forming a protective coating on a substrate comprising, applying a bond coating to the substrate, the bond coating having a first surface roughness, ionizing an inert gas which flows into the surface of the bond coating so as to impart a second surface roughness to the bond coating greater than the first surface roughness, wherein the inert gas is ionized and caused to flow into the surface of the bond coating by a reverse polarity current supplied to an electrode which removes at least one electron from the inert gas, and applying a top coating to the bond coating. Additionally, a method for preparing a surface to receive and adhere to a coating comprising roughening the surface to create a micro-roughening network on the surface. In addition, a method of improving strain tolerance and cyclic spallation life of a protective coating.

    摘要: Disclosed herein are methods for coating metal substrates, systems therefore, and articles made therefrom. In one embodiment, the method of coating a metal substrate comprises: disposing a metallic bond coating on the metal substrate, creating ions with a reverse polarity high frequency apparatus at a frequency of greater than or equal to about 2.5 kHz, roughening the surface with the ions to a subsequent average surface roughness of greater than or equal to about 5 μm, and disposing a ceramic coating on the metallic bond coating surface. The metallic bond coating had a surface with an initial average surface roughness of less than or equal to about 1 μm.

A buttered layer is attached to a second article formed from a superalloy. Residual stresses are relieved between the buttered layer and the superalloy.     摘要: A system in a turbine engine for preventing wear on a tip shroud of a turbine blade that includes a pocket formed in a contact surface of the tip shroud and a plug that fits within the pocket and has a durable outer surface. The durable outer surface may include a cobalt-based hardfacing powder. The pocket may be machined out of the contact surface, and the plug may include a plug of predetermined size that fits snugly into the pocket. In some embodiments, the durable outer surface may substantially align with the contact surface after the plug is fitted into the pocket. In other embodiments, the durable outer surface may remain slightly raised from the contact surface after the plug has been fitted into the pocket.

    摘要: A method of fabricating a machine component is provided. The method includes preparing at least a portion of a surface of a machine component for receiving a sintered preform. The method also includes forming a pre-sintered preform hybrid hardface mixture that includes combining a predetermined portion of at least one hardfacing material with a predetermined portion of at least one brazing material. The method further includes forming a pre-sintered preform. The pre-sintered preform has predetermined dimensions. The method also includes forming the sintered preform and positioning the sintered preform on the machine component. The method further includes fixedly coupling the sintered preform to at least a portion of the machine component via brazing.
