    摘要: A variable cam timing assembly (10) and method for an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle includes a cam phaser (22) connected between an inner camshaft (12a) and an outer camshaft (12b) of a concentric camshaft (12). A torsional drive mechanism (14) connects between the cam phaser (22) and the inner camshaft (12a) for transmitting rotational torque. The torsional drive mechanism (14) permits adjustment for perpendicularity and axial misalignment of the inner and outer camshafts (12a, 12b), while maintaining a torsionally stiff coupling between the cam phaser (22) and one of the inner and outer camshafts (12a, 12b) of the concentric camshaft (12). The torsional drive mechanism (14) can be formed from one of a flexible shaft coupling (40), a transversely split driven gear (140), a transversely split sprocket ring gear (240), a transverse face spline gear (340), and a pin and slot combination drive (440).

    摘要: A method and apparatus for a supercharger wherein pressurized air originating from the compressor side is fed into its gear box for draining the oil therein due to the reduced size of the gear box. The supercharger includes a gear case encompassing the drive gear and the driven gear. The gear case has at least one oil inlet in the gear case to receive oil, and at least one oil outlet on the gear case. An air passage has a first end connected to the compressor end down stream in relation to the compressor wheel, and a second end connected to the gear box, whereby pressurized air at the compressor end is disposed to be channeled toward the inside of the gear box for draining lubricating fluid therein.

    摘要: A blade-type chain tensioner constructed from a plastic shoe and a blade spring. The shoe is slightly arcuate and has a pocket along its concave side. At each end of the pocket is a cavity. The blade spring is substantially more arcuate than the shoe and is rectangular. The blade spring is further dimensioned to allow each end of the blade spring to be mounted in the pocket having an end in each cavity at the end of a shoe. Through this configuration the blade spring is mechanically interlocked with the shoe without the use of fasteners or cutouts. The blade spring places a load on the shoe and causing the shoe to creep at an elevated temperature and thereby provide tension to a chain.

    摘要: A self-guiding chain assembly includes a silent chain with inner and outer links having depending toes. Traditional guide links are replaced by inverted tooth outer links with a crotch of lesser height than the crotch of the inner links. The outer links perform the self-guiding function and act to maintain the chain on the sprockets. The chain has particular application in engine timing systems that utilize phased chains and sprockets.
