Abstract: Scavenging compounds and compositions useful in reducing sulfide emissions from polymer treated asphalt, such as polyphosphoric acid, are disclosed. The scavengers include hexamethyl-enetetramine, water-free triazine, and water-free 1,3,5-triazine derivatives of formula I. Methods of using the compositions to reduce hydrogen sulfide emissions from asphalt are also disclosed.

Abstract: Disclosed are methods for preparing disulfide compounds through oxidative coupling of thiol compounds. Thiols are oxidized to the corresponding disulfide compound in high yield in presence of a base and a metal salt. The method uses low catalyst loadings and provides organic disulfide compounds with little to no byproducts.
