摘要: The present invention relates to cationically curable compositions for curing on a surface comprising a cationically curable component, and an initiator component capable of initiating cure of the cationically curable component. The initiator comprises at least one metal salt, which is chosen so that it is reduced at the surface, and where the standard reduction potential of the initiator component is greater than the standard reduction potential of the surface, and where when the composition is placed in contact with the surface, the metal salt of the initiator component of the composition is reduced at the surface, thereby initiating cure of the cationically curable component of the composition. No catalytic component is required in the composition for efficient cure.

摘要: The present invention relates to cationically curable compositions for curing on a surface comprising a cationically curable component, an accelerator species comprising at least one vinyl ether functional group and an initiator component capable of initiating cure of the cationically curable component. The accelerator species comprising at least one vinyl ether functional group greatly enhances the rate of cure. No catalytic component is required in the composition for efficient cure.

摘要: The present invention relates to cationically and radically curable coating compositions for coating a surface. The coating compositions consist essentially of a radically or cationically curable monomer, and a metal salt. The metal salt is chosen so that it is reduced at the surface to be coated, and where the standard reduction potential of the metal salt is greater than the standard reduction potential of the surface, and where when the composition is placed in contact with the surface, the metal salt of the composition is reduced at the surface, thereby initiating cure of the curable component in the compositions. Redox mediated cure of the coating compositions results in a coating or film on the surface. The invention also provides for functionalization of surfaces. Cross-linking of the coating occurs directly on the surface.

摘要: The present invention relates to radically curable compositions for curing on a surface comprising a radically curable component, and an initiator component capable of initiating cure of the radically curable component. The initiator comprises at least one metal salt and a free radical generating component. The metal salt of the composition is chosen so that it is reduced at the surface, where the standard reduction potential of the metal salt is greater than the standard reduction potential of the surface, and where when the composition is placed in contact with the surface, the metal salt is reduced at the surface, and interacts with the free radical generating component, thereby initiating cure of the radically curable component of the composition. No catalytic component is required in the composition for efficient curing.

摘要: An updatable optical storage device, which may be in microfiche configuration, includes two electrically conductive layers (2,6) between which a layer (5) of a liquid crystal storage material and a layer (3) of a photoconductive material are sandwiched. In order to record an image on the device, the image is projected on to the photoconductive layer through one of the conductive layers, a voltage is applied between the conductive layers, and the storage material is heated at least over regions where the image is to be stored. Projection of the image is continued until the storage material has cooled. The storage material may, for example, be a liquid crystal polymer or a glassy nematic liquid crystal material. The process can be repeated any number of times to update any part or all of the iamge.
