If by example the above is done by a user equipment UE, in another embodiment the network receives first and second indications, searches a codebook using the first and second indications to find the first and second codewords; and utilizes them to improve the channel state information, such as by interpolating between them to find an estimate of the channel. In examples the channel is a MIMO channel that is estimated at two or more antenna ports, there are interpolation weights sent with the codeword indications, and the interpolating uses a geodesic algorithm.

Disclosed is a method, apparatus and a computer readable memory medium that stores a program of computer instructions for enabling a resource allocation to be made for user equipment. The method includes forming a resource allocation for a particular system bandwidth, where the resource allocation has a larger number of resource blocks than a maximum number of resource blocks associated with the particular system bandwidth, while maintaining a same resource block group size as would be present with the maximum number of resource blocks for the particular system bandwidth. The step of forming includes the use of an extended parameter in a derivation of the resource allocation. The method further includes transmitting information descriptive of the resource allocation to user equipment. The resource allocation may be a downlink resource allocation or an uplink resource allocation.

In more particular embodiments a user equipment-specific reference signal UE-RS is scrambled using the initialized scrambling sequence, and the scrambled UE-RS is sent to the UE for demodulating a downlink shared channel (PDSCH). In another exemplary embodiment the generated UE-RS is sent in a pilot part of a subframe transmission associated with the PDSCH and is for demodulating at least a data part of that subframe transmission. In a specific embodiment from the UE side, the UE receives the UE-RS and the DCI which indicates the offset, descrambles the UE-RS using a scrambling sequence that is initialized using a cell identifier and the indicated offset; and demodulates the PDSCH using the de-scrambled UE-RS.

A pre-coding indicator channel is used for transmission in an over-the-air packet-based communication system. A table of pre-coding matrix indices or pre-coding vector information is transmitted to user equipments configured in a spatially multiplexed multiple user MIMO configuration. The UEs receive the pre-coding vector information that allows them to determine the pre-coding vectors used to communicate in the downlink direction from a MIMO base station to other MIMO UEs in the cell or system. The UEs use this information to actively suppress inter-user interference.

A system and method for providing efficient control transmission for single frequency network-based broadcasting and/or multicasting. Various parameters that are needed to decode local single frequency network transmissions are signaled in a channel that is separate from the overlay single frequency network control channel. In various embodiments, this channel is transmitted at the level of a local single frequency network or at an individual cell level. This allows this channel to provide, at any given geographical location, the parameters that are used in the transmission of the particular local single frequency networks in that location.
