In response to receiving the feedback signal, the telephone network performs a number of measurements on the system and related to the user device that can be analyzed to determine the problem, and potentially resolve the problem. The feedback signal can be initiated by any number of user input means, including selection of a key or combination of keys on a cell phone keypad that generate signals which can be interpreted by the telephone network as the feedback signal, e.g., a DTMF signal.

A technique to gather and assess the quality of a location based services provided to a mobile wireless device via a wireless network includes providing location-based service information by referring to a target location of a requested item of interest within a proximity of the present location of the mobile wireless device. Subjective quality or accuracy information can be submitted to the wireless network from the from the wireless device. The subjective quality or accuracy information is correlated with event and condition information affecting the wireless network. Reports can be generated which indicate the quality and accuracy information of the target location information. The reports are useful for troubleshooting location-based service inaccuracy.

The user is provided an initial number of credits. As the user consumes the credits, the data being downloaded is checked to determine if is permissible or non-permissible. Non-permissible data includes file-sharing files and movie downloads if user subscription does not permit such activity. If the data is permissible, the user is provided another allotment of credits equal to the initial allotment. If the data is non-permissible, the user is provided an allotment of credits less than the initial allotment. Various restriction policies also can be applied, such as levying additional fees and/or terminating the user's access to the channel. Also, incentives can be provided to entice the user curb the misuse.

A method and an apparatus to determine the supported quality of service in an anticipated network session between a calling device and a called device that exchange information between at least two independent IP networks. The calling SIP device generates and sends an SIP message to a first IP network, which message is then propagated to a second IP network, and so on. The SIP message includes a desired quality parameter, i.e., maximum delay requested, and an accumulated delay parameter inserted in the body thereof. The accumulated delay parameter is modified by cummulatively adding delays between respective devices and/or networks between the calling and called devices. At the receiving end, the called device compares the requested and accumulated/supported delay, and then reports the results of the comparison back to the calling device via a return acknowledgement packet so that the calling device may decide whether to proceed with or reject the call. The calling and called devices may comprise SIP telephones, data terminals, or multimedia devices.

A system, method, and apparatus for providing bandwidth efficient voice over internet protocol conference calls is disclosed. The system uses softswitches, also known as media gateway controllers, that can track active calls by recording information regarding those calls in the memory of the softswitches. Upon receipt of an instruction, at a softswitch, to issue an invitation to another party to join an existing call, the softswitch examines its table of call information to determine if the invitation should be issued from that softswitch or forwarded to another softswitch involved in the existing call. In this manner, the invitation can be issued by a softswitch involved in the existing call that is nearer to the invited party than would be the case with prior art methods. This avoids the transmission of redundant data and conserves bandwidth.

The video quality monitoring system allows the device user to establish or accept a communication that includes video displayed on the user device via a communications network. The video quality monitoring system may provide a manual or automated user-feedback process for the user to specify information about the received video quality as perceived by the user. User feedback may be correlated with time, location, video server performance, call data records, network performance, road traffic and weather data to produce an association of network events and conditions that correspond to user quality ratings.
