    摘要: Apparatus and associated methods relate to an energy efficient and pollution reducing post top lamp. In an illustrative example, a replaceable light unit (RLU) includes a LED package distributed about a first axis of the RLU. The LED package, for example, may emit a light being redirected by a first optical element to generate a first optical distribution along a first optical axis in a first direction, the first optical axis being substantially parallel to the first axis. The first optical distribution may be, for example, reflected by a second optical element such that at least a portion of the light in the first optical distribution may be reflected into a second optical distribution. For example, at least fifty percent of the light in the second optical distribution may be greater than fifty degrees from the first optical axis. Various embodiments may advantageously conserve energy and/or reduce light pollution.

    摘要: An apparatus and method are provided for amplifying a signal having several multiplexed channels of different wavelengths. In one embodiment, an amplifier 100 is provided having a doped fiber 120 coupled to an input 105, a pump 145 coupled to the doped fiber to provide an output to amplify the signal therein and a control system 130 for controlling the pump. The control system 130 has a detector 170 for measuring power of the signal and a controller 180 for adjusting power to the pump 145 based on predetermined criteria and the measured signal power. The pump power is adjusted as a linear function of the signal power by including within the predetermined criteria a multiplier by which the signal power is multiplied, and an offset that is added to the product of the multiplier and the signal power to ensure that the power applied to the pump 145 is non-zero even for zero signal power. Preferably, the controller 180 can automatically adjust pump power to provide equal and constant gain to each channel even when channels are added or removed. More preferably, the controller 180 can provide a transient response of less than 200&mgr;s when channels are added or removed.

A lens has an incident surface and an optical axis. In cross section along the optical axis, the incident surface, at a first incident point, is concave or flat to light emitted at a normal from the emissive surface. At a second incident point, the surface an instantaneous angle of curvature, relative to the emissive surface, with an absolute value of no more than 25 degrees to light emitted at an oblique angle greater than 75 degrees from the emissive surface normal. Considered in parallel to the optical axis, the second incident point is within a less than 0.2 L from the first plane. In an orthogonal direction to the optical axis, the second incident point lies within less than 2 L from the centroid.
