A single high resolution frame is obtained from a plurality of frames sampled from moving image data, regardless of movement of a subject included in the frames. Patches are provided in a plurality of frames including a reference frame and other frames. The patches are moved and/or deformed, and correspondent relationships are estimated for each frame. The other frames are coordinate converted based on the estimated correspondent relationships. Correlative values, which represent the degrees of correlation between the other frames and the reference frame, are calculated. The number of regions within the patches is changed, and the correlative values are calculated in the same manner. A synthesized frame is generated from the plurality of frames based on the correspondent relationship, which was estimated for the number of regions that yields the maximal correlation.

Different sharpness enhancement processing is performed on the image signal and in accordance with the sampling information to obtain a processed image signal. The different sharpness enhancement processing may be a processing in accordance with frequency characteristics of the image signal, which has been acquired, due to the sampling pattern.

Storage management information such as a URL address of where the supplementary information is stored is generated by storage management information generating unit and embedded the original image data by using deep layer encryption. The original image data in which the storage management information has been embedded are recorded in a recording medium. Since the storage management information has a smaller amount of data than the supplementary information, quality of the original data is not degraded even when the storage management information is embedded in the original image data.

Based on the correspondent relationship, the coordinates of the frame FrNnull1 are transformed, and from a correlation value with the frame FrN, there is obtained a weighting coefficient null(xnull, ynull) that makes the weight of the first interpolated frame FrH1 greater as a correlation becomes greater. A judgment is made as to whether an interpolation point belongs to an image edge portion, at which the change in the original image signal is sharp, or belongs to a flat portion, at which the change in the original image signal is unsharp. Interpolating operation processes, one of which is to be employed for the interpolation point, is changed over to each other in accordance with the results of the judgment. Interpolated image signal components corresponding to interpolation points are thereby obtained from the interpolating operation processes such that a visible image, in which a character pattern and an image edge portion are free from any step-like pattern and are sharp and a flat portion has an appropriate level of sharpness, can be reproduced from the interpolated image signal components.
