Abstract: A system includes a permanent magnet generator (PMG) with a generator shaft defining a longitudinal axis. A brake system includes a brake shaft with a first end operatively connected to the generator shaft for selectively rotating with the generator shaft or braking to slow the generator shaft. A shear shaft is operatively connected to a second end of the brake shaft axially opposite the first end along the longitudinal axis. The brake system includes a wedge with a first position radially withdrawn from the brake shaft, and a second position radially pressed against the brake shaft for applying braking forces to the brake shaft and to the generator shaft.

The transmission can include one or more clutch shafts, one or more clutch shaft input gears disposed on the one or more clutch shafts, each meshed with at least one of the plurality of input shaft gears, at least one clutch shaft output gear mounted to each clutch shaft, a clutch connected to each clutch shaft and configured to selectively connect the one or more clutch shaft input gears to the at least one clutch shaft output gear. The transmission can include an output shaft and at least one output shaft gear connected to the output shaft and meshed with the at least one clutch shaft output gear.

Abstract: A rotary electric machine includes a stator with a stator winding, a rotor with a field winding supported for rotation about a rotation axis relative to the stator, and an excitation winding. The excitation winding is fixed relative to the rotor and is electrically connected to the field winding. The rotor defines a coolant channel having an inlet and an outlet. Liquid coolant enters the inlet and flows outwardly through a portion of the excitation winding to conduct heat away from the excitation winding. Generators, aircraft electrical systems, and methods of cooling rotary electric machines are also described.

Abstract: A terminal block cover for use in an integrated drive generator has a body having a closed outer face and extending to an open inner face, and having an open side and a closed side. There are four connection channels for receiving electric connections for each of three phases of power and a neutral, and they extend from the closed side to the open side. There are spacing channels formed between adjacent ones of each of the four connection channels, with the spacing channels being formed by two spaced ribs with an interior space. An integrated drive generator and a method are also disclosed.
