摘要: A liquid crystal display includes a liquid crystal sealed between two substrates, and a polymer layer for regulating a pretilt angle of liquid crystal molecules and/or tilt directions at a time of driving. One of the substrates has a color filter layer formed on a side of the one substrate. A plurality of stripe-like electrode patterns are provided on the color filter layer. The patterns are periodically arranged so that when polymerizable components mixed in the liquid crystal layer are polymerized to form the polymer layer while a voltage is applied to the liquid crystal layer between the electrode patterns and a second electrode on the other substrate, liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal layer are aligned in the extending directions of stripe-like electrode patterns.

摘要: A method for producing a liquid crystal display device comprising a pair of spaced and opposed substrates, an electrode and an alignment layer formed on one substrate, an electrode and an alignment layer formed on the other substrate, and a liquid crystal filled between the pair of substrates. The method includes the step of realizing an alignment with a pretilt angle, by irradiating the alignment layer exhibiting a vertically orienting property with ultraviolet rays in an inclined direction through a mask having an opening, wherein the ultraviolet rays are simultaneously irradiated onto a first region of a display portion through the one opening of said mask and onto a second region of the display portion through the one opening of the mask.

摘要: A liquid crystal display device including a pair of substrates, an electrode and an alignment layer formed on each of the substrates, and a liquid crystal filled between the pair of substrates. The alignment layer of one of the pair of substrates is treated so that the alignment layer is divided into a plurality of stripe regions including a first stripe region and a second stripe region adjacent to the first stripe region, the first and second stripe regions extending parallel to each other and forming a first boundary therebetween. A direction of alignment of liquid crystal molecules on the first stripe region is opposite to a direction of alignment of liquid crystal molecules on the second stripe region, and directions of alignment of liquid crystal molecules on the first and second stripe regions are parallel to the first boundary. A shading layer is provided to cover the first boundary.

摘要: A liquid crystal display device including a pair of spaced and opposed substrates, an electrode and an alignment layer formed on one of the substartes and on the other substrates of said substrates, and a liquid crystal filled between the pair of substrates. The liquid crystal has a dielectric constant of negative anistrophy. The alignment layers on the one and the other substrates are formed so that one pixel has four regions divided by a crosswise boundary line in which the alignments of the liquid crystal are mutually different. A shading layer is provided to cover the crosswise boundary line, wherein the shading layer includes a storage capacity electrode formed on one of the substrates, and has a first portion extending in a first direction and a second portion extending in a second direction substantially perpendicular to the first direction.

摘要: The invention has an object to provide a liquid crystal display in which a wide angle of view is obtained and a response time at a halftone can be shortened by regulating an alignment orientation of a liquid crystal by the use of a polymer fixation system in which a liquid crystal layer containing a polymerizable component is sealed between substrates, and the polymerizable component is polymerized while a voltage is applied to the liquid crystal layer to fix a liquid crystal alignment. A liquid crystal layer containing a polymer for regulating a pretilt angle of a liquid crystal molecule and a tilt direction at a time of driving is sealed between two substrates arranged opposite to each other. A plurality of stripe-like electrode patterns in which a pattern width is formed to be wider than a width of a space, are arranged so that the liquid crystal molecule is aligned in a longitudinal direction of the pattern when the polymer is formed by solidifying a polymerizable component mixed in the liquid crystal layer while a voltage is applied to the liquid crystal layer.

摘要: An alignment-treating method including a first irradiation step of conducting an alignment-treating for realizing an alignment of liquid crystals in a predetermined azimuth direction on a alignment layer of a substrate by obliquely irradiating the substrate with ultraviolet rays, and a second irradiation step of conducting an alignment-treating for realizing an alignment of liquid crystals in an azimuth direction different from the predetermined azimuth direction by obliquely irradiating a region of the substrate where ultraviolet ray irradiation has not been conducted in the first irradiation step with ultraviolet rays in an azimuth direction 180° different from an azimuth direction of ultraviolet ray irradiation in the first irradiation step. In the first and second irradiation steps, the substrate is obliquely irradiated with ultraviolet rays, through a mask having stripe-shaped light shielding area and stripe-shaped opening, in an azimuth direction parallel to a longer direction of the stripe-shaped opening.
