摘要： In one embodiment, the liquid crystal shutter is equipped with a first liquid crystal panel in the OCB mode to control the transmissivity of the light entering into left eye and a second liquid crystal panel in the OCB mode to control the transmissivity of the light entering into right eye, and a drive portion to control the transmissivity. The drive portion applies a normal voltage of a normal drive in a pulse shape and a retention voltage having a pulse shape with lower frequency than the normal voltage or lower voltage than normal voltage to the first liquid crystal panel and the second liquid crystal panel. The drive portion switches between the normal drive and the retention drive while maintaining bend alignment state.

摘要： A liquid crystal shutter includes a first support substrate having a first electrode and a second support substrate having a second electrode opposite to the first electrode. A liquid crystal layer is sandwiched between the first and second electrodes so as to have a switching region. The switching region becomes a bend alignment state from a splay alignment state when a voltage is applied to the liquid crystal layer. A nucleus region formation portion is arranged on the first support substrate to form a nucleus region in the switching region corresponding to the nucleus region formation portion in the liquid crystal layer, in which the splay alignment is more stable than in the switching region.

The first and second liquid crystal shutters are switched to a transmissive state by turns. An OCB (Optically Compensated Bend) mode liquid crystal layer is held between the first and second electrode substrates. The first electrode substrate includes a first electrode and a second electrode arranged adjacent to the first electrode. 摘要： After supply of power, a liquid crystal display device performing transition from a first state to a second state different from the first state before a display operation is provided with a transition nucleus forming portion around a pixel electrode or inside. The transition nucleus forming portion performs transition to the second state prior to other portion during a transition drive period. The transition nucleus forming portion of the pixel electrode has an edge portion formed into a reverse taper shape decreasing in its thickness toward the tip end. Therefore, transition from a splay alignment to a bend alignment is performed with simple element and drive circuit configuration in all pixels.

摘要： A liquid crystal display includes an insulating substrate, an alignment layer covering a main surface of the insulating substrate, and electrodes interposed therebetween. The alignment layer defines an alignment direction parallel to the main surface, an upstream side as one end's side of the alignment direction, and a downstream side as another end's side of the alignment direction, and tilts liquid crystal molecules toward the downstream side. Each electrode includes an upstream section that includes a first edge facing the upstream side and a downstream section that includes a second edge facing the downstream side and is provided with a recess recessed relative to the second edge. The first recess forms on the downstream section a third edge extending in the alignment direction and a fourth edge connecting the third edge to the second edge and facing the upstream side.
