A deodorizer is disclosed which is superior both in odor elimination effect eliminating an already existing odor and in odor prevention effect preventing odor occurrence, without leaving a colored trace on an application site. The deodorizer of the present invention comprises a salt of copper (II) ion and/or zinc ion; at least one acid component selected from the group consisting of alkylsulfonic acids having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, arylsulfonic acids having 5 to 14 carbon atoms, amidosulfuric acids, and derivatives thereof; and water being a solvent. The acid component may be substituted by at least one selected from the group consisting of amine groups, imine groups, and hydroxyl group. The deodorizer comprises the salt in an amount of more than 0.001 mM and less than 10 mM.

The present invention provides a gradually soluble coating film to be applied to instruments for waterworks. In a conventional polyvinyl alcohol solution not containing metal salt, there is formed a coating film in which polyvinyl alcohol molecules are piled up as shown in FIG. 2(a). In such coating film, water contacting with a surface thereof penetrates rapidly to the interface between the coating film and a base material, so that when water flows away, the coating film flows out and vanishes completely. On the other hand, in a coating film of the present invention, there are formed polyvinyl alcohol inclusion metal hydroxide clusters derived from the kind of metal in the solution as shown in FIG. 2(b). Although polyvinyl alcohol is dissolved or swollen to allow water to penetrate therein when water contacts with the coating film surface, the penetration speed of water in the direction of film thickness is controlled since the metal hydroxide clusters exist in the film. Therefore, when water flows away, only the film in a water penetrated portion in the vicinity of the coating film surface flows and the entire coating film does not vanish at one time.

A method of and system for cleansing a toilet or urinal are proposed which require less maintenance work and are safer to users than conventional methods using acid substances, and which can prevent the formation of stain on the toilet or urinal effectively and suppress the generation of ammonia sufficiently, thus accomplishing a sufficient countermeasure to the stench. A urinal (A1) is provided with a continuous electrolytic cell (1) having at least a pair of electrodes, a passage formed between the electrodes, and an inlet and an outlet that lead to the passage. Tap water is electrolyzed by the continuous electrolytic cell (1), whereby free chlorine is produced. Then the water containing free chlorine produced is supplied to the urinal (A1), and the water containing free chlorine sterilizes the inside of the urinal, thus preventing urease, an enzyme carried by bacteria, from acting to decompose urea. By this method, the deposition of uric stone and the generation of the stain and stench are suppressed on the surface of the urinal and in the trap of the urinal.

A composition is disclosed which can hydrophilify the surface of a member to impart an antifogging property to the surface of the member. The composition for hydrophilifying the surface of the member comprises at least (a) photocatalytic particles of a metallic oxide, (b) a precursor capable of forming a silicone resin film or a precursor capable of forming a silica film, and (c) a solvent, the total content of the photocatalytic particle and the solid matter of the precursor in the composition being 0.01 to 5% by weight. The hydrophilic property can be imparted simply by applying the composition onto a member and drying or heating the composition applied to the member. The resultant hydrophilic thin film is transparent and, hence, does not sacrifice the transparency and appearance of a member required to be transparent. Further, the surface of a member with the above composition applied thereto has such a property that water droplets adhered thereon can be immediately removed by vaporization and the surface is less likely to be soiled and, even when a contaminant is adhered thereon, can easily release the contaminant therefrom.
