Abstract: Various embodiments are directed to shuttle apparatuses for fall protection and methods of using the same. In various embodiments, a shuttle apparatus comprises a shuttle housing configured for dynamic engagement relative to a guide member, a first brake assembly configured for activation during a fall instance, and a secondary brake assembly configured independent from the first brake assembly, the secondary brake assembly comprising: a secondary brake pawl configured to pivotably rotate between a disengaged position and an activated position, the secondary brake pawl configured to rotate toward the activated position during the fall instance; and a secondary brake lock arm configured to freely rotate independent of the shuttle housing such that the shuttle housing being arranged in an angled configuration causes the secondary brake lock arm to rotate to an engaged position to obstruct the secondary brake pawl from rotating, thereby preventing the secondary brake assembly from being activated.

Abstract: Locking systems and method of manufacturing the same are provided. A locking system for fall protection includes a braking lever. The braking includes a shock absorber. The shock absorber includes a plurality of coils. The shock absorber also includes a plurality of breakaway interfaces coupling the plurality of coils together. Each of the plurality of breakaway interfaces are configured to decouple two of the plurality of coils at a different force. At least one of the breakaway interfaces defines at least one deformable finger defined on one of the plurality of coils of the shock absorber interfacing with another coil of the shock absorber.

Abstract: A protection device for traversing a guide member and method of making the like, the protection device includes a wheel configured to engage the guide member. In some embodiments, the protection embodiment includes a locker configured to engage a braking surface. The locker engagement mechanism configured to releasably engage the locker. In some embodiments, a centrifugal actuator operatively coupled to the wheel and configured to actuate the locker engagement mechanism to release the locker based on a threshold speed of the wheel. In an instance in which the wheel is rotating at or above the threshold speed of the wheel in a first direction, the centrifugal actuator is configured to actuate and rotate the locker engagement mechanism to release the locker and to allow the locker to rotate and engage the braking surface. A corresponding method of operation is also provided.
