摘要： The present invention relates to an irrigated ablation electrode assembly. The present invention further relates to an irrigated ablation electrode assembly that includes a substantially polygonal shaped electrode. The electrode assembly of the present invention includes a proximal member, also referred to as a proximal portion having an outer body portion including an outer distal end surface and an inner cavity within the outer body portion. The proximal member of the electrode assembly further includes at least one passageway for fluid. The passageway extends from the inner cavity of the proximal member to the outer distal end surface of the proximal member. The electrode assembly further includes a distal member, also referred to as a distal portion. The distal member is defined by a substantially polygonal shaped body. Irrigation fluid flows from the inner cavity of the proximal member through the passageway and out an orifice provided on the outer distal end surface of the proximal member. The fluid that exits out of the passageways flows substantially parallel to the body of the distal member, therein improving or optimizing the irrigation of the substantially polygonal shaped electrode.

摘要： The invention relates to ablation catheter electrodes that solve in part the problem of tissue charring during radiofrequency ablation. The electrode assemblies of the invention include passageways that lead from the inner lumen of the assemblies to the surface of the assemblies, wherein the passageways have a smooth conjunction with the outer surface. These smooth conjunctions comprise rounded edges or are camfered. In the case of rounded edges, the rounded edges can have fixed radii of about 0.002″ to about 0.008″.

摘要： The invention relates to irrigated ablation catheter assemblies and methods of facilitating parallel irrigation fluid flow along irrigated assemblies. An irrigated catheter assembly according to an embodiment includes a catheter, an irrigated ablation electrode assembly, and a flow member. The catheter includes a catheter shaft having a fluid lumen. The irrigated ablation electrode assembly includes a proximal portion having at least one irrigation passageway and a distal portion. The proximal portion of the electrode assembly may include a proximal member and the distal portion of the electrode assembly may include a distal member which is connected to the proximal member. The proximal end of the flow member is coupled or connected to the catheter shaft and the distal end of the flow member is disposed about the proximal portion of the electrode assembly. Fluid flows through the irrigated electrode assembly and is guided, at least in part, along the outer surface of the proximal portion by the flow member towards the distal portion along the outer surface of the distal portion substantially parallel with the longitudinal axis of the electrode assembly.

The insulated irrigated ablation electrode assembly of the present invention includes a proximal member, a distal member and an intermediate thermally insulating member. The proximal member includes a body portion defined by an outer surface, an inner cavity defined within the outer body portion, and at least one passageway that extends from the inner cavity to the outer surface of the body portion. The distal member of the electrode assembly includes a distal end. Moreover, the intermediate member of the electrode assembly is disposed between the proximal member and the distal member thereby thermally insulating the proximal member from the distal member.
