    摘要: A rotary control assembly (200) for a handheld two-way radio (100) provides improved tactile feedback in the form of clicks, even during gloved usage. Assembly (200) includes a housing having a large control knob (108), a rotary switch control (202) having a shaft (204), a shaft extender (206) having a toothed gear element (210), and a ball plunger (302). As the control knob (108) is rotated, the shaft extender (206), toothed gear element (210) and shaft (204), all turn in cooperation. The toothed gear element (210) is loaded by the ball plunger thereby generating a clicking tactile feedback in response to the control knob (108) being rotated. A large control knob (108), suitable for a ruggedized environment, can thus be used in conjunction with a small rotary switch control (202) for improved tactile feedback while maximizing internal space efficiency.

The push-button (108) includes first and second guide posts (202, 204) of different length, one guide post also serving as a switch actuator. An alignment guide (206) receives the two guide posts (202, 204). The alignment guide (206) with the first and second guide posts (202, 204) are coupled within a recessed portion (216) of a housing (102) to provide tactile feedback, even during gloved usage. The alignment guide (206) may further provide a light guide (110) which can operate as a third guide post for the radio (100).

Light sensitive motion detection circuitry (402, 502, 602) detects movement of the surface through the light permeable portion (406, 506, 606). The control can be implemented in high profile, low profile, scroll and slider bar embodiments, all providing a sealed environment to the communication device.

    摘要: A connector assembly (100) provides improved locking and retention through the use of a cylindrical body (102) having locking arms (104) extending therefrom and a malleable collar (106) that includes an integrally molded interior lip (114) and exterior bumps (116). The malleable collar (106) is slid over a portion of the cylindrical body (102) such that the bumps (116) align with the locking arms (104). Upon insertion of the connector (100) into a housing receptacle, the locking arms (104) compress the bumps (116) thereby providing resistance to aid with retention while the interior lip (114) abuts the cylindrical body (102) which facilitates sealing the receptacle.
