    摘要： A breather filter unit for a magnetic disk drive including a base and a cover fixed to the base, the cover having a vent. The breather filter unit includes a casing fixed to an inner surface of the cover, the casing having a vent inlet communicating with the vent of the cover and a vent outlet communicating with an inside of the magnetic disk drive, and a first filter contained in the casing at a position adjacent to the vent inlet, the first filter being formed from a plurality of fibers extending in a direction substantially parallel to that of an air flow from the vent inlet to the vent outlet. The breather filter unit further includes a second filter bonded to the casing so as to cover the vent outlet, and an activated carbon layer contained in the casing at a position between the first filter and the second filter.

    摘要： Disclosed is a magnetic disk apparatus having a large internal accommodation space. This magnetic disk apparatus comprises a case defining accommodation space inside, magnetic disks disposed in the accommodation space, a spindle motor, magnetic heads and a rotary actuator. The case includes a cover having a first flat portion and a first upright portion standing upright on the first flat portion at a peripheral portion thereof, and a base having a second flat portion and a second upright portion standing upright on the second flat portion at a peripheral portion thereof. This design can ensure a sufficient strength even if the case is made thin, thus allowing the internal accommodation space to be increased. The magnetic disk apparatus also has a printed circuit board, which is provided at the case and has a control circuit mounted thereon for controlling the magnetic heads. The printed circuit board supplies a source voltage to the case. Accordingly, the magnetic disks and the magnetic heads can be kept at the same potential via the case.

    摘要： A shadow mask is applicable to forming a minute film on a substrate by evaporation or the like. The shadow mask comprises a support film, a stopper film, a polyimide film and a thin plate. The support film has enough mechanical strength necessary for forming predetermined sized holes. The stopper film is formed on the support film and is used as an etching stopper while forming the holes in the support film. The polyimide film is formed on the stopper film and bonds the stopper film to the thin plate. The thin plate is formed on the polyimide film and is made of a material which is the same as that of the substrate on which the film is formed or a material whose thermal expansion rate is substantially the same as that of the substrate. Openings of the shadow mask are formed at predetermined regions through the support film, the stopper film, the polyimide film and the thin plate. Each of the openings has a tapered portion and a projected portion. The tapered portion is formed through the support film, the stopper film, the polyimide film and a part of the thin plate, and is broadened to the support film. The projected portion is a part of the thin plate projecting toward the center of the tapered portion. During the step of forming a film on the substrate, the shadow mask is arranged so that the thin plate faces the substrate.

    摘要： A magnetic disk drive capable of perfectly preventing dispersion of oil mists of a grease. The magnetic disk drive has a labyrinth seal disposed between a flange and a bushing of a spindle motor, thereby preventing a possible entry of oil mist of the grease applied to bearings into a sealed chamber. The magnetic disk drive further has a magnetic seal disposed between a rotor and a spindle shaft which are located axially opposite to the labyrinth seal relative to a stator. A combination of the labyrinth seal and the magnetic seal ensures improvement of the spindle motor while maintaining a sufficient sealing effect.

The manufacturing method includes the steps of forming the transparent electrode, the insulating organic layer, the organic layer, and the cathode, which are carried out in a vacuum state.
