Abstract:
Pelletizing die and knife assemblies that may be used for pelletization of plastic extrudate are disclosed. The knife assemblies may include an extrusion die and a rotary knife hub assembly. The rotary knife hub assembly may comprise a hub having multiple pelletizer cutting knives mounted thereon. Each knife may include a cutting blade insert mounted on a body of the knife. The cutting blade inserts may comprise a composite material having a continuous metal matrix with hard metal carbide particles dispersed therein. The composite material has relatively high hardness and good wear resistance properties, but may have a hardness less than the hardness of the pelletizing die surface in order to reduce wear of the die face.

Provided is a die plate assembly for an underwater pelletizing system, wherein molten plastic flows through a die plate and exits into a fluid bath for further processing. The assembly provides a seal against water leakage and effective insulation to prevent heat loss from a heated die plate. The assembly includes a die plate having a plurality of through holes for receiving fasteners for mounting the plate to another portion of the pelletizer system, and at least one insulation chamber for insulating the die plate from the fluid bath located on a downstream side of the die plate. The assembly further includes at least one gasket covering one or more of the through holes to seal one or more through holes from the fluid bath.

A grain mill liner assembly includes a generally circular support member having an outer surface and an inner surface, a plurality of gear teeth inserts spaced about the inner surface of the support member, and a plurality of retainer elements spaced about the inner surface of the support member and configured to be removably attached to the support member. Each retainer element engages adjoining gear teeth inserts for securing the gear teeth inserts to the support member.
