摘要:
An extrudate comprising an inorganic oxide and a comb-branched polymer is disclosed. The calcined extrudates are useful catalysts or catalyst supports. A palladium-gold catalyst prepared with a calcined titania extrudate of the invention is useful in making vinyl acetate from ethylene, acetic acid, and oxygen or oxygen-containing gas. A calcined transition metal zeolite extrudate of the invention is used as a catalyst in oxidizing organic compounds with hydrogen peroxide. Incorporation of a comb-branched polymer improves the mechanical properties of inorganic oxide extrudates.

A catalyst comprising a transition metal zeolite and a noble metal is disclosed. The catalyst is prepared by an extrusion method using a comb-branched polymer as an extrusion aid. The catalyst is used in a reaction to produce epoxide from an olefin, hydrogen, and oxygen. The comb-branched polymer improves the mechanical properties of the extrudate.

Substances useful as water reducing and superplasticizer additives for cement compositions are formed by reaction of carboxylic acid polymers with polyethers of C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 epoxides wherein partial cleavage of the polyether and esterification of the polyether and the cleavage products thereof by the other reactant are achieved. In one embodiment, a sulfonic acid is used to catalyze the reaction of poly(acrylic acid) and a monofunctional ethylene oxide-propylene oxide copolymer at a temperature in excess of 140.degree. C.

A selective process for the preparation of diphenylmethane bis(dialkylureas) is disclosed. An alkyl phenylcarbamate or an N,N-dialkyl-N'-phenylurea is reacted with a methylene bis(alkyl carbamate) in the presence of an acid catalyst. The use of a staged addition of phenylcarbamate or phenylurea to the methylene bis(carbamate) and the use of a ramped temperature program are the keys to good selectivity to MDI dimer products.

A process for the recovery of selenium from a urethane solution containing selenium compounds which comprises contacting the selenium-containing urethane solution at a suitable temperature with copper (I) chloride, oxygen or an oxygen-containing gas such as air, and a complexing solvent such as an amine or nitrile to form an insoluble precipitate of copper-selenium compounds or complexes. The selenium and copper may be recovered from the resulting precipitate in a form suitable for reuse in the preparation of urethanes and selenium removal respectively.
