    摘要： A personal computer includes a box-shaped body having a rear surface provided with a first connector. The box-shaped body is mountable on an expanding apparatus having a second connector, in a manner which joins the first and second connectors, to expand the functions of the personal computer. The expanding apparatus includes an ejector mechanism for pushing the box-shaped body away from the expanding apparatus so that the first and second connectors are disconnected. A lock mechanism locks the box-shaped body to the expanding apparatus when the first and second connectors are connected. An interlock mechanism unlocks the lock mechanism when the ejector mechanism is operated. The expanding apparatus includes a grounding mechanism which moves a metal fitting into contact with the box-shaped body when the first and second connectors are connected and moves the metal fitting out of contact with the box-shaped body when the first and second connectors are disconnected.

When a personal computer is placed on a bearing surface and moved to a connecting position, a first connector 207 provided on a rear surface of the personal computer is releasably connected with the second connector, and a spring-biased fixing member 170 of the expanding apparatus engages an engaging portion 92a of the computer so as to restrict the movement of the computer. An ejector mechanism includes an operating knob 280 and a pair of pushers 242a, 242b provided on both sides of the second connector, for pushing the rear surface of the computer so as to release the connection between the first and second connectors and to eject the computer from the connecting position.

    摘要： An expanding apparatus for expanding functions of a personal computer includes a support assembly for supporting a connector of the expanding apparatus to be movable in a predetermined direction between a stand-by position and a pushed-in position for engaging and disengaging a connector of the expanding apparatus from the personal computer. The support assembly includes a support member to which the connector of the expanding apparatus is attached. The support assembly has a plurality of guide holes. A plurality of guide members extend from a main body of the expanding apparatus, in the predetermined direction, through respective guide holes. Each of the guide members has an extended end, with a stopper provided on the extended end for abutting the support member when the support assembly is in the stand-by position. The stopper thus limits the movement of the connector. The extended end of each guide member has a diameter substantially equal to the diameter of the guide holes, and each of the guide members is tapered off toward the main body.

The stepped portion has a bottom surface lower in level than the upper surface. A keyboard is detachably placed in the stepped portion so that when a display rotatably mounted on the main body is rotated to its closed position, it is clamped between the display and the bottom surface of the stepped portion. The keyboard is arranged in such a manner that when it is removed from the stepped portion it is capable of being used by an operator. The keyboard is connected electrically to the electronic components in the main body and a storage portion is provided in the keyboard and the lid for storing the extensible cord. A circuit board is arranged in the main body to oppose the upper surface and has a holding portion for detachably holding a CPU. The main body has an opening formed in the bottom surface to allow access to the holding portion, and a lid detachably disposed on the bottom surface to close the opening.

    摘要： An expanding apparatus includes a housing with a bearing surface on which a rear portion of a computer is to be placed, and engaging projections arranged on the bearing surface so as to be fitted individually in engagement holes of the computer. As an operating lever provided on the housing is swung up or down, the engaging projections is moved between a first position in which the computer is connected to a first expansion connector of the apparatus and a second position in which the connection is removed. The apparatus is provided with a photointerrupter and an actuating piece which are arranged in the housing, while the operating lever has a push projection which causes the actuating piece to switch the photointerrupter on and off as the lever is swung. When the operating lever is swung from a home position toward a release position with the computer connected to the external expanding apparatus, the photointerrupter detects this and delivers a warning signal to the computer.
