摘要: Devices and methods of use or treatment are disclosed for creating fibrosis and resulting in amenorrhea. In particular, the device relates to an easily deployed intrauterine implant that readily and consistently reduces or eliminates abnormal intrauterine bleeding. In addition, the device is also used as a uterine marker for visualizing endometrial tissue thickness and potential changes. The methods of the present invention serve as a supplement to or a replacement for conventional treatments and procedures used to treat menorrhagia.

摘要: The present invention contemplates a biocompatible and bioreactive process and device that causes a tissue response in the uterus of a female so as to treat a bleeding pattern. Such a tissue response is bioreactive in nature and substantially noninflammatory. It causes migration of myometrial tissue into the implant and deactivates the normal interrelated cycle of endometrial tissue recycling.

摘要: A porous inorganic substrate that may be used as a support, upon which biological, biochemical, or chemical reactions may be executed, is provided. A porous layer of the substrate is tinted with a colorant agent, and the porous substrate has at least about 15-20% less auto-fluorescence background relative to a conventional “white” porous substrate. The tinted porous layer provides improved signal to noise ratios that are important in detection metrics when performing biological or chemical binding assays. Once the porous layer is functionalized, one may immobilize probe molecules on or within the porous layer to create a microarray having a greater probe concentration and retention capability than conventional non-porous inorganic substrates, without suffering relatively high levels of auto-fluorescence and other detriments common to un-tinted porous substrates.

摘要: A semiconductor-on-insulator structure including first and second layers which are attached to one another either directly or through one or more intermediate layers. The first layer includes a substantially single crystal germanium semiconductor material while the second layer comprises a glass or a glass-ceramic material having a linear coefficient thermal of expansion (25-300° C.) which is within the range of +/−20×10−7/° C. of the linear coefficient thermal of expansion of the germanium first layer.

摘要: A hermetically sealed glass package and method for manufacturing the hermetically sealed glass package are described herein using an OLED display as an example. In one embodiment, the hermetically sealed glass package is manufactured by providing a first substrate plate and a second substrate plate. The second substrate contains at least one transition or rare earth metal such as iron, copper, vanadium, manganese, cobalt, nickel, chromium, neodymium and/or cerium. A sensitive thin-film device that needs protection is deposited onto the first substrate plate. A laser is then used to heat the doped second substrate plate in a manner that causes a portion of it to swell and form a hermetic seal that connects the first substrate plate to the second substrate plate and also protects the thin film device. The second substrate plate is doped with at least one transition metal such that when the laser interacts with it there is an absorption of light from the laser in the second substrate plate, which leads to the formation of the hermetic seal while avoiding thermal damage to the thin-film device. Another embodiment of the hermetically sealed glass package and a method for manufacturing that hermetically sealed glass package are also described herein.
