摘要: A process for producing polymeric films by applying a liquid composition onto a surface of a substrate under vacuum conditions in a vacuum chamber. The composition has a first component which is polymerizable or crosslinkable in the presence of a sufficient amount of an acid; and a cationic photoinitiator which generates an acid upon exposure to ultraviolet radiation, electron beam radiation or both to cause polymerizing or crosslinking of the first component. A gas which emits ultraviolet radiation upon exposure to electron beam radiation is introduced into the vacuum chamber. The composition and the gas are exposed to electron beam radiation to cause the cationic photoinitiator to generate an amount of an acid to cause polymerizing or crosslinking of the first component. The composition is exposed to both electron beam radiation and gas-generated ultraviolet radiation and cured.

摘要: A liquid composition and a process for coating the composition onto a surface of a substrate in a substantially oxygen-free atmosphere, under vacuum conditions. The composition comprises one or more components, all of which components do not go into a gas or vapor phase under the vacuum conditions. The composition has an ethylenically unsaturated component composed of an ethylenically unsaturated methacrylate monomer, or a combination of an ethylenically unsaturated methacrylate monomer and an ethylenically unsaturated methacrylate oligomer. The ethylenically unsaturated component is polymerizable or crosslinkable by the application of sufficient electron beam radiation. The composition is substantially absent of ethylenically unsaturated acrylate components, substantially absent of polymerization initiators, and substantially absent of solvents. The composition optionally further comprises one or more polymers without an acrylate functional group and without a methacrylate functional group. The composition optionally further comprises one or more of waxes, pigments, and/or wetting agents.

摘要: A porous metallic layer is incorporated in one of the electrodes of a plasma treatment system. A plasma gas is injected into the electrode at substantially atmospheric pressure and allowed to diffuse through the porous layer, thereby forming a uniform glow-discharge plasma. The film material to be treated is exposed to the plasma created between this electrode and a second electrode covered by a dielectric layer. Because of the micron size of the pores of the porous metal, each pore also produces a hollow cathode effect that facilitates the ionization of the plasma gas. As a result, a steady-state glow-discharge plasma is produced at atmospheric pressure and at power frequencies as low as 60 Hz. According to another aspect of the invention, vapor deposition is carried out in combination with plasma treatment by vaporizing a substance of interest, mixing it with the plasma gas, and diffusing the mixture through the porous electrode. A heater is used to maintain the temperature of the electrode above the condensation temperature of the substance to prevent deposition during diffusion. Thus, plasma treatment and vapor deposition can be carried out on a target substrate at the same time at atmospheric pressure.

摘要: In this method for washing motor vehicles in a gantry-type washing installation with two movable gantries, washing is performed with a single pair of vertical brushes which wash between two horizontal brushes and are located on one of the two gantries. During a forward movement of the gantries, the washing process is commenced with the first horizontal brush in the front third of the vehicle, while the nose is washed with the two vertical brushes. Then the nose and the top of the vehicle approximately up to the rear third of the vehicle are washed with the second horizontal brush. The direction of travel of the gantries is reversed as soon as the tail wash has been executed with the two vertical brushes and before the second horizontal brush has reached the tail of the vehicle. During the return movement of the two gantries washing with the brushes is continued until the vertical brushes have passed the nose of the vehicle and the first gantry is then stopped while the first horizontal brush is still in the area above the first third of the vehicle. The washing time is thus shortened and the space requirement is reduced.

摘要: A vehicle-washing system for vehicles has high-pressure lateral spray devices with spray nozzles stationary in their height, which high-pressure lateral spray devices are arranged on both sides of a vehicle-washing position. An elevationally adjustable carrier is furthermore provided, on which carrier is arranged in particular a horizontal washing brush for cleaning the roof of a vehicle. With each lateral spray device is associated a further spray nozzle, which is connected to the first-mentioned spray nozzles through a flexible fluid pipeline. The further spray nozzles are provided on the carrier and are adjustable in their height following the upper contour of the vehicle to be washed. The vehicle-washing system of the invention achieves with few structural requirements a good cleaning result in the upper area of the sides of a vehicle, also for higher vehicles or for passenger vehicles with a sharply pulled-in area of the edge of the roof.
