    摘要: This invention provides a method of forming a powder compact which can produce a high density compact under a high pressure and at the same time can reduce pressure for ejecting the compact from a die.This method comprises the application step of applying a higher fatty acid lubricant to an inner surface of a heated die, and the compaction step of filling metal powder into the die and compacting the metal powder under such a pressure as to force the higher fatty acid lubricant to be chemically bonded with the metal powder and form a metallic soap coating. Since the metallic soap coating is formed between the die and a compact, friction force between the die and the compact is decreased and ejecting pressure can be remarkably decreased despite of compaction with high pressure. Besides, a high density compact can be obtained owing to the compaction with high pressure.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for filling a cavity with powder wherein a pipe having holes for discharging gas is disposed in a powder box and gas is discharged into the powder in the powder box as the powder enters the cavity so that particles of the powder are movable relative to each other. Due to the gas discharge, the powder can enter the cavity smoothly without whirling up in the cavity and settling unevenly, so that a filling time period is shortened and a particle size distribution in the cavity is uniform.

Iron-based alloy powder of a composition comprising Cr: from 1 to 3.5 mass %, Mo: from 0.2 to 0.9 mass %, V: from 0.1 to 0.5 mass % and the balance of Fe and impurities, and carbon powder are mixed at a ratio of the carbon powder based on the entire portion within a range from 0.8 to 1.1 mass %, the mixture is compacted, the compacted body is sintered and quenching is applied to the sintered body heated again after once lowering temperature of the sintered body. This can provide an iron-based sintered alloy where fine M7C3 carbides are dispersed in martensitic texture.

    摘要: A process for producing a sliding member employs a base material having a covering surface and pores, and a layer material comprising a constitutive component for reacting with a constitutive component of the base material. Initially, the layer material comes into contact with at least part of the covering surface of the base material. Next, the both are heated to the sintering temperature of the base material. Thus, a molten liquid occurs at the boundary between the base material and the layer material. Since the solidus temperature of the molten liquid increases with the reaction proceeding, the molten liquid can solidify early to seal the pores at the covering surface of the base material early. Therefore, the layer material remains on the covering surface of the base material, the remaining layer material comes to constitute a sliding surface.
