    Abstract: A illumination device comprises an excitation light source, a first fluorescent material that converts the wavelength of light emitted from the excitation light source and emits light having a light emission peak wavelength in a range of 780 nm or more and 1,600 nm or less, and a cut filter that blocks light in a wavelength range of 870 nm or less, wherein the first fluorescent material contains a fluorescent material having a composition of rare earth aluminate containing Ce and Nd.

    Abstract: A light-emitting device includes a package having a recessed portion defined by a bottom surface and lateral walls surrounding the bottom surface, first and second light-emitting elements aligned in the longitudinal direction on the bottom surface, and a wavelength conversion member in the recessed portion, the wavelength conversion member converting light from the first light-emitting element. The first and second light-emitting elements each have a polygonal shape other than a rectangular shape in a front view. The first and second light-emitting elements are disposed away from each other so that a longest side of each light-emitting element will be substantially parallel to the longitudinal direction of the bottom surface and so that sides facing each other will be substantially parallel to each other. The wavelength conversion member is disposed at least in a region on the bottom surface between the first and second light-emitting elements.

    Abstract: A method for manufacturing a light emitting device includes placing a light emitting element on a releasable base material so that a first face of the light emitting element is in contact with the releasable base material. An entire area of the first face is a first area. A wavelength converting material is provided on the releasable base material to cover an entirety of the light emitting element. The releasable base material is removed. A first electrically conductive material covers the first electrode and the wavelength converting material. An entire area of the first electrically conductive material viewed in a height direction is a second area larger than the first area. A second electrically conductive material covers the second electrode and the wavelength converting material. An entire area of the second electrically conductive material viewed in the height direction is a third area larger than the first area.

    Abstract: A method for manufacturing a light emitting device includes disposing on lateral surfaces of the light emitting element, a first wavelength converting member containing a first phosphor to convert the first light emitted from the light emitting element into a second light having a second peak wavelength longer than the first peak wavelength. The light emitting element provided with the first wavelength converting member is disposed on a base. A second wavelength converting member is disposed on the base. The second wavelength converting member covers an upper surface of the light emitting element provided with the first wavelength converting member and lateral surfaces of the first wavelength converting member provided opposite to additional lateral surfaces of the first wavelength converting member. The additional lateral surfaces face the lateral surface of the light emitting element. The second wavelength converting member contains a second phosphor.

    Abstract: A light emitting device includes a light emitting element to emit a first light having a first peak wavelength. A second wavelength converting member contains a second phosphor to convert the first light into a third light having a third peak wavelength longer than the first peak wavelength and shorter than a second peak wavelength. The second wavelength converting member includes a portion in which the second wavelength converting member has a first concentration of the second phosphor at a height of an upper surface of the light emitting element in a height direction and a second concentration of the second phosphor at a height of a lower surface of the light emitting element in the height direction. The second concentration is higher than the first concentration such that the second phosphor reflects the second light.

    Abstract: A backlight device includes a light guide plate having an incident surface, a first side surface, and a second side surface. The first side surface extends from a first end of the incident surface and the second side surface extends from a second end of the incident surface. A green illuminant faces the incident surface and emits a green light toward the incident surface. A red illuminant faces the incident surface and emits a red light toward the incident surface. A white illuminant disposed on a side of at least one end of the first and second ends of the incident surface emits a white light toward the light guide plate. At least one of the emitted green light and the emitted red light includes a blue component having an emission peak wavelength in a range of 420 to 500 nm.
