    摘要: A hybrid transmission is provided with a motor and a torque-transfer device is operable to transfer torque from the motor to a transmission input member upstream in power flow from the transmission gearing arrangement. The torque transfer device may be a fluid coupling, such as a torque converter, including a torque converter lock-up clutch. In other embodiments, the torque transfer device is a launch clutch that may be either a wet clutch engagable via pressurized transmission fluid, or a dry clutch, such as used in a manual transmission. A disconnect clutch is selectively engagable to operatively connect an engine connection member with the motor to permit the motor to start the engine, such as after a stop. Many embodiments of the transmission include a one-way clutch arranged in parallel with the disconnect clutch. A method of starting the engine using such a transmission is also provided.

    摘要: A vehicle includes an electric motor/generator unit (MGU), an internal combustion engine, a transmission having an input member rotatable by the engine or the MGU, and an electric torque converter assembly. The torque converter assembly has a pump in driving connection with the transmission, a braking clutch assembly for selectively connecting the engine to a stationary member, a lockup clutch, and a dual-pinion planetary gear set. The electric torque converter assembly allows inertia torque from the MGU to transfer through the gear set to assist engine cranking when the MGU is decelerating. The pump is driven by the faster of the engine and MGU via the gear set and selective engagement, alone or in combination, of the lockup clutch and braking clutch assembly. An electric torque converter configured as noted above is also provided, and may include an electrically-actuated band for grounding the engine during certain operating modes.

The method also includes determining desired engine speed and transmission gear ratio. The method also includes starting the engine via the first motor-generator and locking up all but one of a plurality of transmission torque transmitting devices required to be engaged for selecting the gear ratio. The method additionally includes modulating engagement of the one remaining torque transmitting device while controlling the engine to generate the desired engine speed. Furthermore, the method includes regulating the engine and the first motor-generator such that their combined torque is approximately zero, locking up the remaining torque transmitting device to select the gear ratio, and controlling the engine to generate desired transmission output torque. A system for controlling such a vehicle is also disclosed.
