摘要: Improved methods and apparatus for completing a subterranean zone penetrated by a wellbore are provided. The improved methods basically comprise the steps of placing a sand control screen (e.g., screens, screened pipes, perforated liners, prepacked screens, etc.) and an outer shroud assembly mounted over the sand screen in the wellbore adjacent the zone to be completed, the shroud having perforated and blank (non-perforated) segments with the blank segments corresponding to selected intervals of the wellbore, for example problem zones such as shale streaks or isolated zones where flows are restricted by mechanical seals or packers, and injecting particulate material into the wellbore, whereby gravel packing takes place in the remaining length of the wellbore/shroud annulus without voids. The inner annulus between the shroud and screen provides an alternate flow path for the slurry to bypass the blocked intervals and continue with its placement. Mechanical seals or packers may be used in combination with the shroud and associated sand screen. The method is also applicable to placing gravel packs in a cased and perforated well drilled in the zone.

摘要: An apparatus (110) and method for treating an interval of a wellbore comprises an outer tubular (112) disposed within the wellbore. A sand control screen (118) is disposed within the outer tubular (112). A treatment fluid passageway (144) is formed between the sand control screen (118) and outer tubular (112). In addition, a production pathway (130) is formed between the sand control screen (118) and outer tubular (112). When the apparatus (110) is in an operable position, the region between the outer tubular (112) and the wellbore serves as a primary path for delivery of a treatment fluid, the production pathway (130) serves as a secondary path for delivery of the treatment fluid if the primary path becomes blocked and the treatment fluid passageway (144) serves as a tertiary path for delivery of the treatment fluid if the primary and secondary paths become blocked.

摘要: The current invention provides methods for determining the sand production rate from unconsolidated and poorly consolidated subterranean formations under varying drawdown pressures. The current invention also allows for immediate production of fluid from the subterranean formation upon determination of the sand production rate. Additionally, the current invention provides a method for determining the detrimental sand production rate and/or the maximum sand free production rate for a subterranean formation. Finally, the current invention is applicable in vertical, horizontal, deviated and multi-lateral boreholes.

摘要: A method for isolating selected downhole zones of a wellbore comprises utilizing pre-perforated conduit wherein the perforations have been temporarily sealed prior to positioning downhole. A resin-coated particulate, which forms a permeable solid mass to filter and prevent the introduction of formation sand or fines during well production and is used to secure the pre-perforated casing in the wellbore. The pre-perforated casing, permeable solid and formation are perforated and the resulting perforations filled with a curable composition which cures as an impermeable solid. The impermeable areas define individual downhole zones. Devices such as straddle packers or expandable tubes encapsulated in impermeable sleeves are used to isolate the resulting zones.

摘要: Improved methods and apparatus for completing a subterranean zone penetrated by a wellbore are provided. The improved methods include the steps of placing in the wellbore a perforated shroud (liner) having an internal sand screen therein (e.g., screens, screened pipes, perforated liners, prepacked screens, etc.), positioning about the perforated liner an alternate flowpath comprised of a plurality of “bypass” tubes or conduits having inlet passages or portions adapted to receive the gravel slurry as it reaches the apparatus and outlets for the slurry to reach the well annulus, and injecting particulate material (e.g., slurry) into the wellbore/perforated shroud and shroud/screen annuli, whereby the particulate material is uniformly packed into the two annuli and the zone. In one aspect of the invention, the multiple flow paths are provided via a series of blank tubes (e.g., without intermediate openings) with each tube extending only a portion of the length of each screen joint of the improved well tool. In another aspect of the invention, a plurality of axially-spaced “bundles” or series of radially-spaced, axially-extending bypass tubes are provided along the perforated shroud. A connector (or “mixer”) is positioned between adjacent tube series which fluidly connects the tubes in the two adjacent series. The sand control screen inside the perforated shroud can be an expandable-screen type screen. The expandable screen can be expanded all the way out to the inside wall (ID) of the perforated shroud, allowing the screen to obtain maximum size if desired.
