    摘要: The spectral energy characteristic of a discharge lamp is controlled by changing the density of the fill substance. The spectral characteristic can be shifted while substantially maintaining its shape by changing the density of the fill. A sulfur or selenium containing discharge lamp which is operated at a pressure of at least about 1 atmosphere contains a low ionization potential substance in the fill. Characteristics which are improved are one or more of spatial color uniformity, extinguishing characteristics, and bulb starting reliability. Particular substances which are added to the fill are alkalai metal containing substances, III B metal containing substances, and alkaline earth metal containing substances. When light is reflected back into the bulb, the light which is re-emitted is stronger in the higher wavelengths.

    摘要: A microwave generated electrodeless lamp using a single magnetron, and an improved lamp envelope therefor. An elongated lamp envelope containing a plasma forming medium is disposed in a microwave chamber comprised of a reflector and mesh. The reflector includes a pair of coupling slots, each of which is disposed equidistant from the ends of the lamp envelope. A waveguide means is provided which has a wall which is comprised of a portion of the reflector which includes the slots, and has means for introducing microwave energy thereto at an area equidistant from the two slots so that the energy couples equally to the slots. When the frequency of the microwave energy and chamber dimensions are arranged so that a symmetrical standing wave exists in the chamber, a balanced system results wherein after a short start-up period, approximately equal light output is obtained from the respective ends of the lamp envelop. In order to prevent re-condensation of the envelope fill during operation at areas of low temperature, an improved envelope is provided in which such areas are severly tapered to cause hotter operation thereat.

    摘要: An electrodeless discharge lamp has a thinner wall portion located proximate a position of high applied power. Since the heat capacity of the thinner wall portion is smaller then the remainder of the bulb wall, the thinner wall portion cools faster when the lamp power is turned off, and the condensable part of the fill tends to condense at this bulb wall portion. When the power is turned on again, since the thinner wall portion is located at a position of high power application, the fill is available in such region to be evaporated, thereby resulting in more rapid starting.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for curing three dimensional objects such as cylindrical two piece cans with ultraviolet light without having to rotate the cans, at conventional can line speeds and using a minimum number of lamp units. In a first embodiment, the cans are moved, without rotation, between at least a pair of ultraviolet lamp units so that the closest surfaces to the lamp units are substantially within the focal planes thereof. The lamp units are parallel to the direction of can movement or are rotated from that direction by a small angle with the lamp units of each pair being rotated by the same angle but in opposite senses. In a further embodiment, each lamp unit, instead of being faced by another lamp unit, is faced by a reflector to increase the cure speed attainable with the same number of lamp units.

    摘要: An ultraviolet (UV) LED-based lamp for UV curing lamp assemblies is disclosed. An array of UV emitting LEDs are packaged together and arranged along the length of a cylindrical lens to form a UV LED-based optical component assembly. The UV LED-based optical component assembly may be made to be modular. A UV LED lamp assembly may comprise a plurality of UV LED-based optical component assemblies arranged around a workpiece tube. The workpiece tube may be filled with an inert gas and may be made of quartz or glass. One or more curved back reflectors may be placed opposite the LED UV LED-based optical component assemblies to collect UV light escaping the workpiece tube and refocus the light to the other side of the workpiece. The UV LEDs may be arranged on a single surface or a multi-level tiered platform.
