摘要： A catheter and guide wire exchange system including a catheter that has a guide wire lumen with a guide way extending along a length of the proximal shaft. A guide member is slidably disposed about the proximal shaft for directing a guide wire into or out of the guide way and the guide wire lumen. A transition section joins the trilumen proximal shaft to a coaxial distal shaft.

The catheter also has a distal shaft, with a greater flexibility than the proximal shaft. The catheter also has a transition section. A proximal end of the transition section communicates with the proximal shaft, and a distal end communicating with the distal shaft. The transition section has a gradually increased flexibility from its proximal end to its distal end. The transition section includes a transition means creating the increased flexibility.

摘要： A catheter design and method is provided for the aspiration of thrombus, clot, atherosclerotic emboli in the vascular bed. The aspiration catheter includes an aspiration lumen, a guidewire lumen having an exchange port, and a recess in the aspiration unit. The aspiration catheter lumen is divided into two sections: (i) proximal, and (ii) distal. The distal section has a distal opening.
