A method for disabling a portable vault of a postage metering system includes the steps of: (A) inserting the portable vault into a terminal of the postage metering system; automatically determining via the terminal if the portable vault has been designated to be disabled from performing vault functions; and (C) at times when in step (B) it is determined that the portable vault has been designated to be disabled from performing vault functions automatically disabling the inserted portable vault from performing vault functions.

摘要： A method is provided for printing and regenerating mailpiece content material in a mailpiece creation system having a controller for modulating the flow of data a printing device. The method comprising the steps of producing an electronic version of the mailpiece content material and generating print stream data indicative of the mailpiece content material. The print stream is then segmented into data sets/packets indicative of a self-contained pages of mailpiece content material. The data packets each include page-based data and an object-data dictionary associated with the page-based data. The data packets are then stored as electronic files in an electronic buffer and, from the electronic buffer, transmitted during a first data transmission to the integrated printer. After the pages are printed, the electronic files of self-contained pages are moved from the electronic buffer to a storage device. Should any pages be identified as having been unsuccessfully printed, the system controller issues a command signal to regenerate the unsuccessfully processed pages in a second data transmission. This final step can be performed automatically or manually.

摘要： A system and method for processing mailpiece content material in a mailpiece inserter including a printer integrated with the mailpiece creation system. The integrated printer receives print stream data from a software application and prints the mailpiece content material based upon command signals from a system controller. The system further includes at least one device disposed downstream of the printer for issuing a signal indicative of the rate that content material is processed by the inserter. The system controller monitors the throughput rate of the at least one downstream device and issues a command signal indicative thereof. The system and method of the present invention employs a page-based language monitor to throttle the print stream data received by the printer to vary the printing rate of mailpiece content material. Accordingly, the system and method drives the rate of printing to closely match the throughput rate that mailpiece content material is processed/generated by the inserter by the at least one downstream device. Consequently, the throughput of the mailpiece inserter is optimized.

An apparatus incorporates the method.

When the system is operable only one accounting system is rendered operable with priority given to the external smart card.

The postage meter includes a micro controller for generating token data for use in printing a postal indicia where the token data includes an indicator of a token currency type. The printer is in communication with the postage meter and includes a micro controller, a memory and a print mechanism for printing the postal indicia on a mailpiece. The printer memory has stored therein indicia graphic data including an indicator of an indicia graphic currency type. The printer micro controller receives the token data from the postage meter and compares the token data indicator of the token currency type with the indicia graphic data indicator of the indicia graphic currency type prior to printing the postal indicia.

摘要： A value dispensing system includes: a printing mechanism for printing an indication of value; a microprocessor including a real time clock mechanism, the microprocessor initiating printing of the indication of value by the printing mechanism; a device for electrically connecting the value dispensing system to a primary power source and for utilizing power received from the primary power source to operate the microprocessor and the printing mechanism; a back-up power source which supplies backup power to the microprocessor to enable continued operation of the real time clock only when the value dispensing system has been disconnected from the primary power source; wherein the microprocessor is programmed to 1) disable operation of the printing mechanism upon a failure of the backup power source and in response to reconnection of the primary power source to the value dispensing system, 2) require resetting of the real time clock as a prerequisite for reenabling the operation of the printing mechanism subsequent to its disablement by the microprocessor, and 3) only permitting the resetting of the real time clock subsequent to inserting a real time clock security card into the value dispensing system.
