Abstract:
A folding apparatus for rotary printing presses uses at least a single stage speed reducing device between a collection cylinder and a folding blade cylinder to reduce the speed of travel of signatures before they are cross-folded. The reduction in the speed of travel of the signatures eliminates damage to the signatures during their cross folding while allowing the printing press to operate at a high rate of speed.
Abstract:
In the context of a guide device for a narrowing gap between the two cylinders of a machine for processing sheet-like products, adapted to cooperate with each other during the transfer of the sheet-like products comprising a rotary member which is rotatably bearinged by means of lateral journals with an axis parallel to the cylinder and has a cylindrical outer surface, and at least one stationary connection member which is laterally adjacent to the said rotary member and has a surface configuration tangentially intersecting with a cylindrical outer surface of the rotary member, and in the case of which the rotary member and each connection member associated therewith are arranged so as to be adjustable in relation to the adjacent cylinders, a greater ease of operation is achieved inasfar as on at least one of the lateral journals of the rotary member, which is able to be moved by means of a setting device along an associated guide running sideways in relation to the axis of the rotary member, there is for each connection member at least one pivoting arm pivoted on the same and on such pivoting arm a carrier for the associated connection member is pivotally carried, which carrier is in pivotally firm connection with an associated sliding guide device.
Abstract:
For the purpose of helping in the making of a second lengthways fold in a web of paper in a folder having a folder blade for producing this fold, the paper is firstly scored at the desired fold position in the long direction by a sharp-edged wheel pushing the paper against a turning back-up part, which is let into the face of one of the nipper or guiding rolls of the folder. The wheel with the sharp edge is placed on the other, opposite roll between separate roll parts or wheels thereon gripping the web against the other roll.
Abstract:
A cutting device is used to accomplish the transverse cutting of at last one material web. The cutting device includes a transport cylinder that is arranged to form a first cutting gap in cooperation with a first transverse cutting device. The transport cylinder is also arranged with a second transverse cutting device to form a second cutting gap.
Abstract:
A folding apparatus for a rotary printing machine utilizes a plurality of belt guide systems to retain signatures against the surfaces of the collecting, folding and gripper cylinders of the folding apparatus. The position of a longitudinal folder or of a turning bar or bars can be shifted in the axial direction of the collecting cylinder at least the width of one belt to align at least one longitudinal edge of the signatures with one of the belts in the belt guide system. The grippers on the collecting cylinder will engage the leading edge of the signatures without damaging them.
Abstract:
A device for deflecting a product stream consisting, in particular, of folded sheet products, from a first to at least one following longitudinal conveying device which are laterally displaced apart is provided. The distance between the first and second longitudinal conveying device is bridged by a further longitudinal conveying device which is inclined to an extent corresponding to the lateral displacement of the first and second longitudinal conveying device. The further longitudinal conveying device preferably includes two parallel, uniformly-driven conveying elements positioned adjacent to one another.
Abstract:
A transport or conveying device is used in a folding apparatus for transporting or conveying signatures. A transport or conveying cylinder, which carries the signatures, is placed in cooperative engagement with another cylinder. A position of a terminal end of a signature carried on the transport or conveying cylinder can be altered. The other cylinder that cooperates with the transport or conveying cylinder includes devices that press on the signature and that displace the end of the signature.
Abstract:
A device for conveying flat floppy products has an inlet conveyor belt with a constant velocity, an intermediate conveyor belt with a periodically changing velocity and an outlet conveyor belt with constant velocity. The intermediate conveyor belt causes a deceleration or acceleration of the product to be conveyed. Transfer of the product between the conveyor belts takes place at respectively the same velocities of the affected belts. The drive of the intermediate conveyor belt is performed by a gear making periodic gear changes. The invention relates to the relationship between the shaft distance and the radius of the drive pulley of the intermediate conveyor belt and is particularly related to steps reducing the torque during acceleration or deceleration of the drive elements and assuring a slip-free conveyance of the products.
Abstract:
In the context of a folding device comprising at least one transverse folding part which is supplied and discharged by feed tapes and is in the form of a buckle folder with a buckle passage flanked by two outer rolls cooperating with a center roll with the formation of feed nips, such folder having a set of tapes running through it over the center roll, a greater degree of adaptability to the processing of different products and of possibilities of modification of the feed paths may be ensured if the outer roll on the delivery side may be pivoted away from the center roll so as to open up and render ineffective the delivery feed roll nip and the buckle passage may be shifted so that its inlet is over the inlet-side feed plane of the tape set running over the center roll.
Abstract:
In connection with an apparatus for putting paste on a moving printed paper web in strips at a right angle to the direction of motion of the web by moving the web between a pasting cylinder and a web support part on the other side of the web, one purpose of the invention is to make certain that the strips of paste may be put on at a high speed and to have such a design that the upkeep work on the apparatus is simple and may be done quickly. To make this possible, the pasting cylinder is made up of cylinder body and a paster roll placed within it so that a limited area of its outer face is uncovered by an axial slot in the outer face of the body. The paster roll has one or more wells stretching along it that are topped up with paste at a point within the pasting cylinder body, while the parts of the outer face of the roll between the wells are stripped and kept clear of the paste. The paster roll and the pasting cylinder body supporting it are turned about two separate, parallel axes with the axis of the roll moving round the axis of the body. The speeds of turning of the roll and the body are such that the sum thereof is equal to the speed of the web. At the point at which the web is acted upon by the roll its opposite side is supported by the support part that is in the form of a rail placed eccentrically on a turning shaft, the shaft being run at such a speed that the surface speed of the rail is equal to the speed of the web.
