    Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a pre-5th-generation (5G) or 5G communication system to be provided for supporting higher data rates beyond 4th-generation (4G) communication system such as long term evolution (LTE). A communication method and apparatus using beamforming are provided. The method includes acquiring transmission beam specific, measurement information of a base station (BS) and measuring a reference signal (RS) transmitted through transmission beams of the BS according to the transmission beam specific, measurement information. The measurement information on each transmission beam is determined according to at least one of an elevation angle of the corresponding transmission beam, an azimuth of the corresponding transmission beam, a handover urgency, information on a handover failure, and information on a radio link failure (RLF). A mobile station (MS) may perform a measurement report or a handover process according to a result of the measurement.

Embodiments herein provide a method for triggering a transmission of a UE-to-Network relay indication comprising receiving, by UE, one of UE-to-Network relay criteria broadcasted by a base station, measuring, at the UE, a link quality parameter between the UE and the base station, detecting, by the UE, that the link quality parameter meets the UE-to-Network relay criteria, and transmitting, by the UE, the UE-to-Network relay indication (i.e. discovery message indicating itself as the UE-to-Network relay) on a Device to Device (D2D) discovery channel.

The method includes transmitting a first key request message including an identifier (ID) of an originating user equipment (UE) to a server through a mobility management entity (MME), receiving a key response message including security parameters and a secret key of the originating UE from the server, determining a security key based on the security parameters and the secret key of the originating UE by the originating UE, and communicating with a terminating UE based on the security key by the originating UE, while a connection between the originating UE and the terminating UE is maintained.

    Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a communication method and system for converging a fifth generation (5G) communication system for supporting higher data rates beyond a fourth generation (4G) system with a technology for Internet of Things (IoT). The present disclosure applies to intelligent services based on 5G communications technology and IoT related technology, such as a smart home, smart building, smart city, smart car, connected car, health care, digital education, smart retail, and security and safety services. A method for managing resources for Device to Device (D2D) communication includes: establishing a radio connection with an evolved NodeB (eNB); receiving allocated resources for D2D communication from the eNB through the radio connection; performing the D2D communication by using the allocated resources in an idle state after the radio connection is released; and responsive to receiving a message from the eNB indicating a release of the allocated resources, releasing the allocated resources.
